Only meaningful if he actually does so. I don't know the man, but in the small chance that he was offered the Texas job and took it, or Ohio State matched the offer, I'd bet a tidy sum that the Meyer family doesn't buy/build a more expensive house.

What's absurd is that people believe that those in a completely different economic stratosphere think like those of us in the middle class do, i.e. "if I make twice as much, I can spend twice as much". With exceptions, they simply do not.

Fine, as long at the deal includes you stipulating that you're wrong.

Your point is moot unless Meyer gets the job (or more likely gets an extension and raise from tOSU), and breaks ground on this mega-mansion you seem to believe he wants.

This is the correct answer.

LOL. This could easily be changed to:
I've always felt Ohioans are pretty delusional overall as far as self-superiority goes, so I definitely could see them thinking that [insert any coach here] should be drooling over the chance to leave any job to have the unbelievable honor of being a Buckeye.

Correct, at that level of income, it's largely just a scoreboard kind of thing.

I would guess, however, that Urban would be less steamed about Saban getting that deal than the fact that he earns less that Bielema and Sideshow Bob.

Could be changed to any of the national-level programs. No doubt about it.

Ha it's not making $10 million that matters to people like Nick Saban and other big time coaches and athletes, it's that you're worth it. That's why Justin Verlander wanted 6 years/$150M, not just because of cash, but because he felt he was worth being so highly paid

Heath Cline ‏@heathradio 21m Spurrier to Bianchi: "I didn't know Jadeveon's car that could go that fast. He doesn't have a pretty car like those FSU guys used to drive."

Steve Spurrier quotes are the best.

QB Baker Mayfield transferring from Texas Tech. He was a walk-on who played decent. Interesting that they wouldn't give him a scholarship.

They were chock full of QBs as it is. I read somewhere that it was a communication breakdown or something amongst him and the coaches.

I read that as he thought he was going to get a scholarship and it never came.

Regardless, he's able to play somewhere else immediately since he was a walk-on.

I believe he wants to go on scholarship somewhere and would be required to sit out if that's the case. I mean, he's clearly good enough to play high D-1 ball.

I think Saban yearns for that next challenge. Got to believe he has more than enough money for whatever he wants to do.

Whatever he makes at Bama.....he could probably continue with a couple extensions for 15 more years if he wanted to.....if he went to Texas for twice the salary but after 5 years never really did what they thought, I think he'd be miserable and easily driven out.

I could see Urban being far more needing of the cash.....but he has his dream job and is set for life.

Just curious, why is Meyer "more needing of the cash"? If it's because Saban makes more than him I see why you say this, but if it's another reason?

I think that is what separates Saban and Meyer for the Texas job. Saban is at the top now, and probably does look at the next challenge. Meyer is just getting started at OSU, so he is content for now on that front. If Meyer had won a couple NCGs at OSU, then I think there would be more possibility of Meyer leaving.

Good post, and this is the main reason I think he goes.

Just mainly a guess that Urban probably likes more of the finer things than Saban. Saban seems like the football 100 hours a week 52 weeks a year type....and of course all the coaches are ridiculous with the hours invested...I just guessed that Saban has a less need for money in general....and Saban's made a good bit more over years.

idk about that, but I have to think 4.6 mil can buy a lot of fine things ;)

I tend to think it's as simple as Urban having the job he always wanted, and not really being interested in any other college job. Also, he really doesn't seem like a guy that would be interested in the NFL, though I could be wrong.
