Way too early to talk playoffs, especially after the last two collapses, but one thing in their favor now is how there's only 4 (maybe 5, depending on how you look at Arizona) legit teams in the National League at this point with everyone else being .500ish or worse. Washington and the Dodgers are disappointments, the Giants are struggling after winning it all, Philly and Milwaukee have fallen off from perennial contender to mediocre or worse, Cubs and Mets are still the Cubs and Mets (although NY might be starting to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel with the way guys like Harvey and Wheeler are coming on), Miami's a joke and SD/Colorado are the definition of meh.
If trends like those continue, it could help the team. You know towards late July/early August, the pressure will be mounting with a lot of "will they hold on THIS TIME??!?" talk. Not having anyone breathing down their neck for a wild card spot so they can just focus on being in the best position they can be in as far as the three-headed beast in the Central goes would be awesome.
