Good read. But its so easy to look back AFTER and nit pick about what should have been done. And so much depends on game situations. In the Orange Bowl, OSU got down in the 4th qtr. Reality is, they had to throw the ball more to get back in the game. Should they have used Hyde more? Sure. How much? Who knows. Certainly couldn't have kept giving him the ball. Wasn't enough time left to do that. Again, when you lose a game, its so easy to say you "woulda, coulda, shoulda". THere were a stretch of games where OSU rarely threw the ball and gave Hyde the ball big time. So ok...maybe OSU SHOULD have passed more to prepare and get better in that area during those games...?? Should they have? Who knows.vball10set;1564702 wrote:Good read...

Yes, at times I questioned play calling. Who doesn't. But again, I have a hard time criticizing an offense that shattered OSU records this season and also when the OSU defense was just NOT GOOD. And IMO, the defense is why OSU ended up with 2 losses. Thats the bottom line IMHO.

^^^it's what we do, cbf, it's called "Monday morning quarterbacking"--what else would we do, work? lol....anyway, I see your point regarding getting behind in the Orange Bowl, but how would you explain Hyde only getting 18 carries in the B1G championship game? IMO, it's okay to criticize as a fan, 'cause hell, we know more than the coaches anyway...right?

I realize that. But as I said, I find it hard to criticize a unit(offense) that did what they did overall this year. To me, its a NO BRAINER and very GLARING, where the weakness is, defense. You score 35 at a place like OSU, you should win. And they did the previous 235 times in history!vball10set;1564718 wrote:^^^it's what we do, cbf, it's called "Monday morning quarterbacking"--what else would we do, work? lol....anyway, I see your point regarding getting behind in the Orange Bowl, but how would you explain Hyde only getting 18 carries in the B1G championship game? 18 times in big ten game? Well, when you spot a team 17pt lead...then down late in game, its hard to stick to a game plan or continue to give it off to a RB. Should he have gotten it more? Absolutely. But again, if defense holds up, we keep it close, or have lead..then I really believe he would have gotten the ball at least 25 times. Its not that I totally disagree. But game situation dictates much of what you have to do on offense.

All other factors aside, I think we 100% agree on why we lost these two games

I think if I had to grade the teams performance on the year:
Offense: A-
Defense: D+
Special Teams: B+
Overall: B
Offense: A-
Defense: D+
Special Teams: B+
Overall: B

I'm giving the D an F grade. This is based on it being the worst I've seen in my 29 years of life.

Yeah the defense gets no higher than a D- from me. This season was pitiful.
Offense i'd give a B+, factoring in the end of the year
Special teams I'd give an A.

Why is nobody grading TGCCiH*? He gets a C+ from me for occasional lapses in program management which includes poor staff supervision and collaboration of strategic objectives.

Offense = B+, maybe even A-
Defense = D-
Special Teams = A- (only downgraded to an A- because there wasn't really much in terms of the kick/punt return game)
And believe it or not, I actually agree with Tiernan. We had two losses this season. 1 to MSU. In that game, OSU was up 24-17. All they had to do was keep giving the ball to a guy who averaged 6.8 yards per carry that game (Carlos Hyde). Instead, numerous reports said that Meyer specifically told Tom Herman he wanted the ball in Braxton Miller's hands, hence why we were running sweeps with Miller & Hyde as the lead blocker late in the game. This is simply unfathomable. I can't seem to find a link supporting this, but if you ask any Buckeye Insider, they will pretty much support this.
The 2nd loss was to Clemson in the Bowl game. OSU was up 29-20 and was getting the ball back. All they had to do was issue a fair catch and then give the ball to Hyde, who this time was averaging 4.5 yards per carry. FEED. EL GUAPO. Meyer's playcalling was VERY questionable in key moments of the season.
It pains me to say this, because I'm a HUGE Uran Meyer advocate, but his coaching this year in key parts of the games has to earn him a C+, maybe B- at best.
