Agreed, and we originally tried that approach and saw the results. The sports forums became a steaming pile of shit and even someone like CoA (I believe) offered up solutions to help to alleviate the detrimental effect the all is fair game policy that we used to operate under. Hence The Basement.

Debatable. But I think you would agree that not offering up any substance isn't the real issue. It's his repeated attacks on a certain school/fanbase that are only intended to rile them up and not actually offer anything. You just chose to pick out one aspect.

It's fine to have worthless posts every once in a while. As you astutely pointed out, there is a lot of meaningless crap here adding nothing (but also generally not causing a huge distraction or trying to piss people off). It's fine to be critical of a team. There are plenty of critical posts regarding all the schools represented here that are made in such a way that aren't trying to aggressively troll a school/fan base. But there are a few people who repeatedly make posts with only the intentions of trying to rile up people adding nothing, often just rehashing the same old tired lines.

And what we have seen in the past is that when one poster really starts to lay into a team/school (A), posters of that team/school tend to retaliate against the "trolling" poster's team/school (B). Then you get B posters attacking A posters and a never ending cycle. Intelligent conversation or respectful disagreements fall by the wayside and it turns to a steaming pile of shit again.

As I agreed with queencitybuckeye, it would be easier if people just ignored these. But we tried that approach and found that too many people just kept taking the bait and we ended up with a disaster.
