Right before xmas I had a sample of Grand Traverse Distillery 100% Rye Whiskey. Very very good, but $65 for 750

I just found a place nearby that carries Midleton Very Rare.
One of my cab drivers while I was in Ireland told me that it's the best whiskey he has ever had. Anyone on here had it? I want to get a bottle. But at $140, not sure if I want to risk paying that much based on a recommendation from a cabbie who was definitely a racist.

If anything, him being a racist would increase his knowledge for snob whiskey.

Don't care much for Irish or Scotch whisky. So I would pass since I wouldn't pay more than $20 to have a bottle laying around for friends with shitty taste

I wish I could get into bourbon more. Just can't find the complexity in it (though I've been told by everyone that it's there, and I believe them).Curly J;1571432 wrote:Had my 2 glasses of Woodford tonight with my cigars. Just love that Bourbon.

It was phenomenal. The nicest wedding I've ever been to by far. And they had a shuttle to the hotel, so everyone took full advantage of the bar. Buffalo Trace, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, West Sixth. And a fine selection of about 75 sorority girls between the ages of 23-27. We had a blast.WebFire;1639315 wrote:Oh wow!

To those asking, I've now had Cleveland Whiskey's different bourbons a few times.
It's not bad, but you can get better for the money. It's okay in mixed drinks. Even ones that tend to leave the whiskey prominent (a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned, etc.). But other than the Christmas Whiskey, you may as well grab Booker's. It's AT LEAST as available, costs about the same, and certainly no worse in quality. The Christmas Whiskey was really enjoyable, but it's something of a novelty (think a bourbon mixed with very complimentary Christmas spices ... cinnamon and nutmeg at least).
Cleveland is actually one of my clients, so I get the stuff on the cheap or free from time to time, so I've had a fair sampling of it over the last few months. It's got a pretty pronounced spice with decent complexity, but while the finish mellows, it's short-lived. Also, the dominant flavors you'll get are mostly vanilla and oak. Any other subtleties seem to have not developed as well as one might with a more traditional process. You're not going to get Maker's Mark quality, but I'd put it in the same camp as Knob Creek.

Bumping this.
Bought a bottle of Jim Beam's Signature Craft. Not bad for the price, pretty good aftertaste.
Also bought a bottle of Devil's cut and decided to do the Apple Pie Bourbon I saw on 11 Warriors.
Strained it, added some apples, cinnamon stick, and vanilla and combined it back to the bottle.
Did that last week, had a taste this afternoon, so good so far. It is like a cinnamon vanilla bourbon so far.

I almost pulled the trigger on some Pappy Van Winkle 20y today but bought a Knob Creek holiday box for 1/3 the price instead.
