Since it's starting to get to the time of year where it's appropriate for me to make eggnog, any suggestions as far as the bourbon goes? I usually use Jim Beam Black because it's cheap and doesn't blow but I'm up for trying something different.

Makers Mark is the standard.
Knob Creek isn't bad, little harsher
Buffalo Trace is a really good one too.
My go-to Bourbon is Eagle Rare, all should be under $30 depending on where you look and deals.

I've got a fifth of Knob waiting for me at home for the evening because we just got done with our round of exams today. After five years living on the bourbon trail, my preference is Woodford County, Makers, Knob Creek, in that order.ptown_trojans_1;1517936 wrote:Makers Mark is the standard.

Had a house warming party the other week and friends got me two bottles.
One was Blanton's, very nice.
And the other was Hudson's Baby Bottle of Whiskey from New York.

Anyone had this? I haven't broken it open, but my friend says it is amazing.

Good stuff....my grandfather loves it. I've got him the Baby Bourbon and Manhattan Rye as gifts in the past.ptown_trojans_1;1532688 wrote:Had a house warming party the other week and friends got me two bottles.

My roommate is a bartender....it's dangerous lol. We've been drinking old fashions on the regular. Went through a bottle of Bulleit on Friday.

Oh it is very good. Nice hit, but smooth finish, lots of oak and vanilla flavor.WebFire;1532690 wrote:I've eyed that before. Let me know how it is.

Thanks. I might have to give it a try. The problem is getting it. I think I first saw it on caskers.com, but shipping is pretty hefty.ptown_trojans_1;1533488 wrote:Oh it is very good. Nice hit, but smooth finish, lots of oak and vanilla flavor.

I bought the last bottle of New Holland Beer Barrel Bourbon last week at the store. It's Bourbon finished in oak beer barrels that they aged their Dragon's Milk beer in.
It was okay. Lots of peat flavors in it. Real earthy. Felt like more of a Scotch flavor than bourbon. Don't get me wrong as I did drink the whole bottle. Just not sure if I'll ever buy it again.

Everyday Bourbon is Elijah Craig (12) Next step up would be Wild Turkey Rare Breed super smooth for 108 proof.

I'll have to check around Findlay then. If not, I'll pick some up next time I'm down there.cdva;1543498 wrote:WebFire not sure where "around here" is for you. I am in the Columbus area and it is available most State Stores

Went to the fundraiser/auction at my daughters' school Saturday night...all they had was Dewars. Disappointing.

Was in Kansas City last week, went to Harry's Country Club, recommend it to anyone who stays in KC. Near the downtown and they have a great selection of bourbon and whiskeys.
Made a point to try the local Dark Horse Distillery, their whiskey, the Reserve, and their Rye, the Reunion. Both, very good and smooth.

I'm drinking Clan MacGregor Scotch. It comes in a liter bottle with a screw-on cap. It costs $13.
Only way to make it more white trash would be to put it in a plastic bottle.
But hey, it's a new year, and fuck it, it's not InBev, so I don't give a shit.

I have a bottle of Buffalo Trace, Elijah Craig, and Blantons on my shelf. Also have a handle of Segrams for mixing.
The Elijah Craig is my favorite, 12 year single barrel 94 proof.

Bought the Elijah Craig tonight after having Woodford at the cigar tasting. Great price point for Elijah 12.
