Looking for some recommendations for some good whiskey. Not a bourbon fan but enjoy most other kinds. Actually, not sure I've ever tried scotch.

Johnny Walker black is a good staple, whiskey, non-bourbon.
Crown is also a solid choice. Though, I'm not too much a fan, tastes a little bland to me.
Glenlivet 12 is a solid alright Scotch As well as Oban.
I largely stick to bourbon. Bought a bottle of Elmer T. Lee the other day.
Broke that open last night, boy is it smooth.

I know what you are trying to do with the thread title, but legit question, do big whiskey fans have a snob culture (similar to beer snobs)?
I never got that vibe from whiskey fans.

Isn't their multiple whiskey cultures? The single malt scotch, Irish, Canadian and American whiskey fans?like_that;1294116 wrote:I know what you are trying to do with the thread title, but legit question, do big whiskey fans have a snob culture (similar to beer snobs)?

Connemara ... it's an Irish Whiskey. Peat-y. Delicious.

This is what I think is the quintessential Scotch. And at $90 a pop, it's semi-affordable.
Another solid Scotch is the Glenfiddich Cask Strength. Make sure you either drink it on the rocks or dilute it a little bit. Cask strength anything usually has an extraordinary bite to it.
Yeah, Glenmorangie is decent stuff. Good price, too.raiderbuck;1294500 wrote:Just tried Glenmorangie 10 year. It was pretty good.
I will recommend Oban 14-Year if you're looking to get into Scotch. Perfect balance of bite and peat, in my opinion. If you want to ease your way into peaty drinks, I would recommend a low-peat Scotch like the Balvenie. If you want a LOT of smoked peat to it, try the Caol Ila.

Honestly, I don't know what it is, but it seems like there is a cultural acceptance of not drinking shitty whiskey. It's not seen as snobby. It's just seen as classy.like_that;1294116 wrote:I know what you are trying to do with the thread title, but legit question, do big whiskey fans have a snob culture (similar to beer snobs)?

Not so with beer.
It seems culture has the notion that that if you only drink high end Scotch or bourbon, you're classy, but if you only drink high end beers, you're an ass.

Which makes me a Classy Ass. Actually I'm more of a bourbon fan so maybe I'm a Redneck Classy Ass.

MaCallan Single Malt - 12 is good, but the 15 and 18 are amazing.
