No, I meant the ACC. You know, when Florida State, Miami, and Virginia Tech (i think it was those three, know it was 3 of the better football schools) were exploring leaving the ACC for the Big 12. Did you forget about that? The conference still wasn't stable with the addition of Pitt and Syracuse. Now with Notre Dame and the $50 million exit fee, schools aren't leaving.

Every conference school will make more money moving forward with Notre Dame in the mix. The conference members would not have voted to accept ND if there wasn't some benefit. Literally the only possible drawback is a team getting skipped over in the bowl selection process. Keep in mind the league will be able to negotiate with better bowls (more money) with Notre Dame a possibility.

ND would rather play 5 random ACC schools a year than 5 random (plus UM, Purdue, MSU) B1G schools a year?
They still would have openings for four games against USC, Stanford, Navy and BC.
Make no sense except for competition stand point to increase wins.

Since 95% of Notre Dame fans I know are only fans of the football team, meaning they didn't even attend the school, don't root for other school teams, etc. this hardly matters.

From a money standpoint it all makes sense. The facts are that Notre Dame despite their lack of success in the last 25 years is still a huge draw where ever they play. Competition wise, the 5 random ACC schools a year will be about the same calibur of schedule that they play most years so no gain or loss in strength of schedule (just more money) The natural rivalries would have been much better in the B1G (Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State. Purdue, Penn State) but if they would not have played football in the conference what good are they?

The thing is notre dame will never join a conference in football unless the super conferences happen and they break away from the NCAA. Even in the acc does break up and fall apart ( which is very slim now) notre dame has plenty of money to pay the 50 mill exit fee. This move makes a ton of sense for both sides. It holds the acc together and Notre Dame joined arguably the best conference for the other sports.

Agreed. Why would the Big Ten "give into" Notre Dame? And I applaud the Big Ten for not giving into Notre Dame's "demands."

Are they the only ones that explored it and was fsu the only school targeted by the big 12 for expansion? Did anyone know Notre Dame was close to joining the acc until late Tuesday night?

So I take it you have inside info that Clemson and Miami were targeted by other conferences? ND didnt save the conference in any way, anyways. They didnt join for football.

Do you have inside info saying Florida state was the only school of interest for the big 12? Google.com or pay attention when the stuff was talked about.

Did I say save or stabilize? I don't remember. The $50 million exit fee I mentioned that was just put into effect yesterday along with ND's partnership definitely stabilized the conference.

Clemson denied it? That means they didn't explore it, right? Just like the other schools like pitt and syracuse or Missouri or any number of teams.

If this many people are pissing and moaning about this news, it means ND did the right thing for itself so I'm happy.
