Solid post. The only little exception was the part about the site working because people could "say or do whatever they wanted." That was part of what resulted in the AdSense suspension, so while it was great for traffic, it was also counter-productive for the use of AdSense.

Not so much doing whatever you wanted, but the fact that there wasn't a sense of "overmoderating" that I think there is now. I personally don't care really, as I realize why I got banned, but the fact remains people like this site better because of the laid back atmosphere. Make your money using high school football and let the rest of the forums go as needed.

But it's also going to be hard to attack the high school scene, or bring in advertising dollars, if you let the rest of the forum be everything goes. Most businesses aren't going to want their name tied into something like that.

You can seperate your forums advertising from the other forums. If you get the high school football scene on lockdown, that would create a price war for advertising. The other forums shouldn't affect the advertising for high school football as they are completely different run forums.

While they are run completely different and the ads can be funneled to those forums only, some businesses will still look at SB/CFB/Basement/Politics and get the perception that this place is a shit show, and not want to be tied to it regardless of how tight of a ship is run on the HS side. That's where the challenges will be.

I like what you're thinking, but the problem is that football ... as any sport ... is seasonal. That means that once football season was over, Justin would see the traffic to that forum plummet for a good portion of the year.

Ultimately, Serious Business is the ideal place to have AdSense up. The basement is the ideal place not to ... hell, get some adult ads up in there for all I care. Serious Business and Politics strike me as having the least seasonal traffic. As such, they'd be the most likely candidates for reliable year-round traffic.

It actually could be possible for the two to be different, assuming we could determine tangible differences.

If the traffic converts at too low a rate, one can be mistakenly identified as trying to manipulate the system. If goodie-two-shoes or if dick wads are consistently poorly converting traffic, they can get you the AdSense boot.
