If the NCAA didn't punish the programs, teams could simply break the rules until caught, then fire any staff that participated, and there would be no punishment for cheating. Is that what you are wanting?

^^^of course not. But penalties that are severe and linger over several years do not seem fair, warranted or productive on new administrations innocent of the crimes nor on the community in general. Moreover, I just want the NCAA to be what the NCAA is supposed to be.

now that is downright disingenuous, Sandusky was not some GA working with the team. beside paterno, jerry sandusky was the face of penn state football. he played the major role in making PSU "linebacker u" His arrest and the coverage would have definitely put a hit on recruiting.

So you only dislike it if the penalties are severe? Otherwise you don't mind the innocent being punished?

Why are most of your posts leading questions????
I think the information you require to ascertain my viewpoint is in post #53.

now that is downright disingenuous, Sandusky was not some GA working with the team. beside paterno, jerry sandusky was the face of penn state football.
As he retired in 1999, I think it is more disingenuous to suggest he was the face of PSU football the past dozen or so years.

as psu continued it relationship with him, allowing him use of their faciluties and paterno raising money for his second mile program for procuring young boys. i am sure that would have really helped recruiting.

I hope Penn State wins its lawsuit against the NCAA. No way we should be punishing a school for some employee raping a few boys. What's next? A kid scrapes his knee at Kentucky's campus and the NCAA levies a $100 million fine BECAUSE CHILDREN.

The NCAA should be shut down.

Smoking weed is a criminal offensive it doesn't give an athlete any competitive advantage but the NCAA punishes people for that. Wheres the outrage when that happens.

Read the legal opinions I posted in post #58...Private organizations may not impose sanctions/punishments/penalties on its members without proper notifications...e.g. "rules and regulations." The NCAA does have in its very bloated and massive rulebook rules against certain activities, specifically rules against drug use, as well as gambling. Hence, the NCAA can punish members for those violations. Moreover, those penalties are usually directed at the individuals responsible.
The NCAA does not have a published rule against any general criminal activity, hence the very valid arguement that the NCAA has exceeded its' jurisdiction by levying punishments against PSU.
