UGGLA is not on my top 5 or probably even top 50 hitter list. Neither is fatass Ruiz. I was just joking about those two.

I'd definitely go top 5; top 3 is more of a question with him, Kemp, Hamilton and Miggy all being up there. And Pujois, who is hard as fuck to rate right now with how insanely he's dropped off from what he usually does. Like, has this past 1.5 months been a fluke, or did he go from star to dud overnight? Votto's definitely on my short list...I just don't know how high on that list he'd be. And having the thread coming up now definitely doesn't make it easier, since he just came off a game where he more-than-doubled his season HR total.

It's tough votto is a very very good hitter. But kemp, Hamilton, miggy, braun, pujols and even Jeter who is more of a pure hitter I think is better but it's not much. You really can't go wrong with any of them in the top 5

Mine wasn't in order. Should have clarified.

Pujols is probably 6th, but still gotta say top 10. We'll see if his slump lasts longer than 15 months...if it extends through this year, he's out of that top 10 category.

Even if he falls back, I wouldn't call him "done" yet.

Done is a good word choice given what Dunn has done. Terrible first year in the AL and now he's back to what he always was. I don't think Pujols will ever be what he was but even if he's 85% of that he'll still be darn good.

Don't get me wrong. Big Dunn fan here. Just saying. I think in the past he had some pride. Not sure he gives a crap now.

He might hit 50 HR's and strike out 250 times. That's an exaggeration but still. Another 40/200 year isn't out of the question...

You forgot Javier Valentin.

And I agree, seems like Dunn doesn't care about the strikeouts at all anymore. I think a 50 homer 250 strikeout year would be hilariously awesome.

I think its interesting everyone putting Kemp above Votto despite Votto having better career numbers in nearly all offensive categories.

I look at it like this. Votto, we have seen his best, imo. Kemp, we saw glimpses for 2 years (relatively poor 2nd halfs though), prior to last years explosion. This year has been even better thus far.

Well, first I said, imo.

But, I dont see him surpassing his MVP season. I see him totaling those numbers, give or take in some categories. He has had about the same numbers each year in the MLB.


With Kemp, I think he has it in him to be better. Last year was better than Vottos best year, and this year is on pace to be better than last (though who knows with a nagging hamstring). His numbers have increased every year he has played.

Yeah I think many were impressed by Kemp's awesome start. Here's some May numbers for you:

Kemp: .212/.341/.303
Votto: .359/.519/.744

I just think Votto has shown that we can always expect some pretty awesome numbers from him that make him an elite hitter, Kemp had a great year (singular) in addition to a lot of good years. His hot start this year added to the idea that he is an elite hitter (which he may be), but I'm not convinced he can sustain the kind of numbers he's been putting up. I hope I'm wrong because I love to watch great hitters do amazing things, but so far for Kemp its the exception not the rule. The same can't be said for Votto, who has been a consistent .300+ BA for nearly his whole career (batted .297 his rookie year, his lowest), and has had 3 years in a row with an OBP above .400 (Kemp has none, but to be fair his OBP last year was .399)

Put on top of that the fact that Kemp has an extra year of MLB service under his belt and I'm just not convinced that he has suddenly gone from great hitter to elite hitter and will stay there. Votto has pretty much set up shop in the elite category since he came into MLB.

No. Not really at all. Check the numbers.

Votto's 2010 is pretty much better or tied with Kemp's 2011 in all categories that matter when it comes to batting (RBI and Runs scored being the big difference in Kemp's favor, and those aren't even controlled by the batter)

I'd give Votto the edge with the better OBP and SLG. But I'd like to hear why you think Kemp's 2011 was so much better than Votto's 2010 when the numbers don't agree with you.
