I know you are going to give me a "because it's my site, and this is how we are doing it" type of response.... BUTTTT i think it would have been nice if you had an open discussion thread regarding the new rules, instead of establishing these rules with your moderating committee in the moderating forum.

These rules apply to ALL forums:
  1. No personal attacks or unwarranted name-calling. Just because someone has a different opinion doesn't mean they're an idiot.
  2. Do not continually harass other members (this includes moderators).
  3. Do not aggressively troll a thread with the sole purpose of derailing it.
  4. Do not reveal anyone's identity.
  5. No swearing in thread titles.
  6. No pornography or gore.
You penalized me without me breaking a rule. Saying LJ knows things is a true statement, if it were not true he would have an IQ of 0. I didn't say he knew everything and I didn't call him an expert of anything. As for the response to Mooney, he invited it by mentioning it within his post multiple times. It was a good post, but my response did not break any of your newly established rules.
From post #42:
I like this post. A lot. I agree 100%.

We aren't going to ban swearing. There are swear filters that can be set for those that don't like bad words. But the "that's the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard" is just a roundabout personal attack, as far as I'm concerned.

This should be infraction imo if lhslep got an infraction for his post.

I've had multiple times where I've experienced "LOL this coming from a Mooney fan" or "A Notre Dame fan WOULD say that" has been lobbed as some sort of argument against me when its not even a discussion about sports. I realize I'm kind of asking for it with my username, but I've had this thing on this site from its inception, and on other sites since 2002, so its a bit late for that.
If we can't make fun of Pittsburgh fans for being Pittsburgh fans....well, that's just un-American.

That sort of equates to letting the inmates run the asylum.

This thread is a perfect example of why the rules have to be so strict, because if they weren't then people would just say whatever they wanted and if they get called out/warned/probated for it, they would claim it was sarcasm, or they were just joking around. Then we're back where we started.

I'm sort of looking forward to a few "This is BS, not why I came to this site, see ya later guys" posts. As if we're going to miss those people and beg them to come back.

If its a thread about the NFL or something then fine. Free game. But if its an honest-to-god discussion about some current event or hotly debated topic, what does "LOL Steelers fan trash, more like PittsPUKE!" add to the conversation? Come to think of it, it doesn't really add to NFL discussion either, but at least its relevant.

They both have the same implication, both are demeaning, but there's no way in hell you're going to start warning people for saying someone's post is stupid, so why would you penalize for the other?

Saying someone's post is "the dumbest f*cking thing I've ever heard" is a far cry from saying someone is the dumbest f*cking person you've ever seen, which I would agree should be a violation.

Because other than Justin (the creator of this site), wtf makes you guys so special over the other posters where you can make these rules? The pink username? With all due respect to most of the mods, because I like most of them, it's not like you guys "earned" mod status as most forums do with their mods. Most of you guys were immediately appointed to be mods as soon as Justin made the site, because he liked you guys as posters on the huddle.

So we can't joke about the good old personal attacks anymore? I took lhs' post as a joke but I get that it could be interpreted as a personal attack. My question is who was he attacking? To me, it was sleeper. Not LJ.

So why would he have a conversation with other posters? But not the people who he has put in charge of trying to maintain order....

Post above anwers that question. Justin is a meanie like that, making it look like I can't read by posting the answer seconds before I post the question.

It's not about the "inmates running the asylum." We aren't inmates, without us this site would not exist. I just think the mods are victims of groupthink and they could have received input for all posters to see their side of the issues of this site.

The rules just seem catered to the posters who have thin skin imo.

If by "people like me" you mean people who come to sites like this to discuss sports, et al, in a civilized manner without every thread decomposing into a festering, troll-filled, diarrhea of words, then yes.....I'm pretty sure justin is trying to appeal to people like me.

Once again, this should be an infraction based on the new rules if lhslep received an infraction for his post imo.
Also this post is exactly why I think the rest of the posters could have provided input. I just love when mods make rules or enforce them, but then they mock the posters. Awesome!

I really don't get the big deal...it is not that tough to just be civil and have a good time shooting the shit on a message board. Just use common sense and have discussions without resorting to name calling and trying to piss everyone off. Make it more enjoyable for everyone so more people post...then we won't have the same 50 people posting all the time.

I'm not denying that, but that's not the point I'm trying to make.

My question to you is: what is the implicative difference between the following responses: 1) that's so stupid; 2)thats the dumbest f*cking thing ive ever heard.

Obviously #2 is unnecessary, but that's not my point. Please explain the implicative difference.

In what ways? I mean, the CC is a pedo, LJ knows/has done everything, etc, etc shit does get old and more often than not derails threads that could have held some good discussions.

Also, fuck this and all of you, I finished my sandwich so I'm going back to the beach. :)
