I like the ads. The finger needs to be pointed at the parents. Make them feel like crap for being bad parents. When you think of what a fat kids goes through everyday I say it's time the parents start taking the heat. Let the parents be the ones who are embarrassed.

Are there fat kid ads out there that blame parents? I haven't seen them, and I want to!

If/when I have kids and I am going to lock them out of the house every day in the summer. We were never inside when I was little. We left the house at 10 am and were home around dinner time (no cell phones to check in, etc). We would go to the pool, ride bikes, rollerblade, play wiffle ball...anything and everything to stay outdoors. My brothers, sister and I also played baseball and softball which kept us busy. I am so, so glad that I was raised in a small, tight-knit town and that my parents allowed us to get out and be kids. I know things are somewhat different these days and that not everyone lives in a place that will allow that type of thing to happen...but I hope to raise my kids in a similar fashion.

I was raised in the same fashion and type of town. It was a small rural town that was ridiculously safe so I would just run around with friends all day and my mom wouldn't have to worry. GOAT childhood.

I just fenced in my back yard this past November, so my child will spend every (non 100º day) outside. As soon as my 2 year old is a little older, we will more than likely make a few more trips to some pools as well.

+1, i lived in a town with more cows than people.

I had a large paved drive way at my house growing up, can't beat having a place to shoot hoops and play street hockey.

Childhood Obesity is a MAJOR problem that is only INCREASING.

I place blame on...
  1. The producer of the fattening foods. I think there needs to be a certain level of corporate & social responsibility.
  2. Lack of education [on what is fattening, what the results will/can be if you eat this, displaying nutritional facts, etc.]
  3. Parenting
  4. The little fatasses themselves
  5. Me (or society)
In that order.

*Note: Order is subject to change as I think of more people to place the blame on.

[/LIST]No! No, no, no, no, no, no, no!

LET THE BUYER BEWARE! Businesses are out to make money, not to take care of their customers weight problems.

You know what... drinking a lot of beer will make you fat. You want them to regulate that too?

can't put total blame on the fast food industry. People need to use self control, but at the same time they target young kids and poor families with cheap fast meals.

it's people like you that fuck our society scarlet...why would you get mad at the producer of the foods? it's a person's CHOICE what they eat as well as the parents to help give their kids the proper nutrients. Blaming the producer of the foods is just a fucking retarded way of thinking.

Did you blame mcdonalds too when they made hot coffee, some dumb bitch spilled it on herself, and then sued? yeah, i bet you were that guy who supported the dumb bitch

It is not the responsibility of the companies to make sure people can't get fat on their food. Unhealthy food is fine to eat as long as it is in moderation. Education is just common sense. Read labels. It's all on the parents.

Agreed. And the parents who are suing McDonalds for marketing to their kids should be taken out back and beaten. As a parent you need to tell your kids "no you can't have that."

As cheap as the fast food meals are, it is still cheaper to buy fruit and veggies.

I think businesses have a corporate social responsibility to look out for the well-being of society.

I'm not putting total blame on any one area; hence why I listed 5 bullets and never once made specific reference to the fast food industry other than now.

I agree that people need to use self-control, but then again the corporate world specifically markets stuff to the general public in a way that sometimes isn't right.

No doubt parenting plays a HUGE part in this equation. The world has changed (and changed for the worse, unfortunately) and there is now this sense of "It isn't my problem/fault/etc." mentality and it's ruining our society. That very same mentality "it's not my fault, problem, etc." is shared by many businesses, too. It's a 2-way street.

But it's not the fault/problem of the company. Like I said, eating junk food is fine as long as it's done in moderation. It is up to the parent to limit how much their kid is eating.
