D) Perhaps by being the "mentor" he thinks that bumps him up to 2nd string :laugh:like_that;1158793 wrote:Pretty sure he did.
The following is likely what happened:
(A) He didn't like Colt.
(B) He realized he is never going to be a starting QB, because he isn't good enough, and he is a selfish POS (see Ravens game), so why not save his current well paying job by being helpful to the new rookie?
(C) All of the above

During this meeting they probably told him he better learn to like being a mentor or he'd be out on the street and the market for career-long WCO back-ups that don't like being team players is remarkably dry.hangonsloopy;1158795 wrote:Yep. He sounded like he completely changed his attitude. Maybe he had a talk with H & H and realized he's making 3 million so he better suck it up and be a mentor. Because he flat out said his job this year is to get Weeden ready to play.

That's kinda what I thought. Hopefully it worked. He could really help Weeden with the right attitude.

IMO Gaffney would be an ideal signing for the Browns for a multitude of reasons (which is why it won't happen):
1. Calms down the media/fans bitching about the FO not doing anything about the WR position
2. Actually upgrades the talent in the receiving core
3. Low risk move that could pay off. Gaffney has a chip on his shoulder and shouldn't command a ton of years or money.
4. Veteren who's known for his route running....could teach the younger guys a few things.
I just don't really see a downside to at least pursuing him.

BTW...I think they are going to use Weeden like Roethlisberger was used his rookie year. Pound the run, play defense and surprise the opposing D with the deep ball when least expected. More ball control/game management until he gets acclimated when they can turn him loose. Take your shots downfield when the D gives it.

Would rather have Jacoby Jones who was just released than Jabar

I think they will ride T-Rich like a rented mule until Weeden gets his feet under him. My understanding is that the terminology & pass routes are very similar to what Weeden did at Oklahoma St. Will just need to get more acclimated taking snaps from center.like_that;1159066 wrote:Hopefully we go 15-1 like they did.
Hopefully the defense steps up and they can chew up a lot of clock, trying to win ugly. I think the game plan will be similar to what they tried with McCoy..."manage the game, don't make mistakes" except there may be a bit more of a vertical slant to it when opportunities arise.
To me, their success (or lack there of) will be riding on the O-Line (controlling the LOS/able to run) and the defense (keeping it close)

How about they get both Gafney and Jones? Starting 4 or 5 would be Jacoby Jones, Little, Gafney, MoMass/Cribbs, Benjamin/Norwood?

So hard to predict a record with a rookie QB, but now that the draft is over I would probably go with 6-10.
I think that's the same record I predicted last year too, though.

6-10 worst case, 8-8 best case

More like 4-12 worst case imo. If they are anywhere from 6 to 9 wins I would be more positive about this team. It would be especially nice if most of the games were exciting.SportsAndLady;1159138 wrote:6-10 worst case, 8-8 best case

They won't be that bad. I don't buy into the "tough schedule" thing. NFL teams are almost day and night from year to year. It just looks rough right now because we have 3 playoff teams in our division, which is 38% of our schedule.like_that;1159176 wrote:More like 4-12 worst case imo. And with Richardson in the backfield last year they'd win 2 or 3 more games than they did. Weeden won't ever be great (or probably even good..) but he'll be good enough to avoid going 4-12. But no better than 8-8, no chance.

I actually think we did a great job of shoring up the defensive line and that will allow our defense to be a lot more consistent and play better. Also, we should be able to control the clock much better on offense with Richardson giving the D more rest. They performed admirably for how often they were on the field last year.

I just don't see them going 0-6 in this division again.

Still need a more sure fire OLB imo, and also still need a DE. Get those 2, and the defense will be scary imo.lhslep134;1159422 wrote:I actually think we did a great job of shoring up the defensive line and that will allow our defense to be a lot more consistent and play better. JB Shugarts will be the MVP. Mauling dudes at RG. Can't Wait.
