This has been my fear all along. Weeden needs the breathing room to make the mistakes a rookie is going to make without being worried about Browns stadium erupting into Colt chants when he inevitably has some bad games.
Colt started too many games to go back to just being a back-up on the same team.
One Weeden injury where he comes out for a few series or a half and Colt comes in and plays well and we are back to Couch/Holcomb all over again. It is just setting the team up for disaster in the longer term.
The biggest problem is that Colt is a likeable and nice guy, and an underdog type people will root for. All along fans in this town have been transfering their like of him into a skill set on the field he just doesn't have.
I heard someone calling in today legitimately worried that the Browns were going to let him go and he was going to end up like Drew Brees somewhere else. There is alot of irrationality among the fan base towards his talent, and there is just not enough upside of him being a cheap back-up to keep him around when the potential downside is so disastrous.
