I hope so but I'm not sure about that at all. The article that was linked earlier says he was warned about "pulling jerseys" before this incident, not anything especially dirty.

# Browns practicing 3rd and long - still throwing passes short of the sticks
Daryl Ruiter ‏ @ RuiterWrongFAN
Shurmur counting in yards after catch to pick up 1st downs in those routes
rick grayshock ‏ @ RickWFNY
Browns still expecting WRs to fight for first down on third down throws. Yes, they practice this.
Saw this posted on the OBR and it confirms that it is indeed the coaching staff handcuffing the QB's on this team with all those short passes even on 3rd and long.

Considering how well that worked for us last year one can only wonder why they think more of the same is a good idea (especially in a season when they are fighting for their jobs).

That is absolutely absurd. I mean, the players should be expected to fight for extra yards on just about every play, but to specifically instruct them to run routes short of the sticks on third and long plays is ridiculous, and quite frankly, why Shurmur will be searching for a new job next year.

According to the "Common Man and the Tourge" in Columbus, Shurmer didn't kick him out over that alone, there was a verbal confrontation that neither disclosed in the press conference. Either way....we don't need to be a MASH unit still (AGAIN....STILL AND AGAIN) , and we need aggressive players....lick whichever end of the blade you feel fit!

I'm not counting a Browns victory (yet) but I can see some rust. Browns will need to make him uncomfortable in the pocket.

BROWNS: Team president Mike Holmgren told Sports Time Ohio that running back Trent Richardson "should be back on the field doing something next week." Holmgren also said there's a chance that Richardson will be back for the season opener but that the team will be smart. This seems to cast more doubt than before on whether Richardson will be ready on Sept. 9. Before the Browns were "hopeful" he would play, now they're going to be "smart" about playing him. In other news, cornerback Joe Haden returned for the afternoon walk-through after getting kicked out of morning practice by coach Pat Shurmur. After talking to Haden, Shurmur said, "Everything's fine. It's a dead issue." It's tough to sweep something under the rug when it happened at a practice attended by fans and the media.

No foul. Not close to being a horse collar tackle. But how would they know since they don't have officials at practice. SMH @Browns leading the league in fouls.

Another reason why shurmur won't have a job after this season.

If Haslam cleans house after the season and gets rid of all the west coast offense guys running this team I doubt he will bring in a guy that runs the same system from the Holmgren tree. I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem terribly likely, and is definitely not the "Steeler way" approach Haslam is likely to take when hiring a new coach/regime next off-season.

On a side note, fans have been ripping Shurmur on the call in shows this morning for kicking Haden out of practice. Seems no one is taking seriously the "tough disciplinarian" look Shurmur is going for as Haden is really popular with the fan base and people like that he was at least trying during practice instead of going through the motions.

Here's an idea.

Maybe the coach is pissed because his star corner is not only facing a 4 game suspension for using Adderal to party longer, but also near horse collared a guy coming off injury in a non contact drill.

The call in show "fans" can snap a broomstick in half, so there's a jagged edge, and politely shove that up their collective asses.

I initially said it was "ticky tack" but after thinking about it, I have no issue with what Shurmur did. Was it borderline? Yes, but think of it this way. Let's say Shurmur let's that "slide" and the next time Haden actually does horsecollar Benjamin, takes him down, and tears his ACL in a non-contact drill? The Browns ONLY legit vertical threat, from what I can see, is now out for the season? Shurmur is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

you can tear your ACL virtually doing any running. Seems it is most prevelant when a player is cutting. Maybe we should just sit Benjamin out of everything so he doesnt get hurt. All be damned if he misses another game due to "soreness"

still doesnt warrant being kicked out of practice IMO. If shurmur doesnt want him hit, put him in a non contact jersey

These comments come from an ex-NFL player who is now an executive for another team...

(On rookie Brandon Weeden)…….People must remember Weeden is a rookie regardless of his age and maturity. He is going to make mistakes, and he has the skill-set and physical stature to become a good quarterback in this league.

We watched film on him and viewed his workout prior to the draft and came away impressed. Weeden can make every throw imaginable due to his arm strength and how he can spin the ball. This is an area which the Browns have struggled for some time.

Defensing the Browns hasn’t taken any special concerns. The quarterbacks didn’t have a gun, the receivers were not really vertical threats, and so we would throw some masked looks at them and attack the box.

Give the young man time to grow in the pro game and the Browns will once again have a true talent under center that can change the complexion of a game. In our evaluation of Weeden, he is a first round talent and would have been a much higher selection if not for many being concerned about his age and longevity potential.

Take the mistakes in his rookie season with a grain of salt, it’s a learning experience and all the great ones started somewhere.

Watched the Tits/Cards game (until halftime) last night and for anyone who is saying the Browns are the "worst team in football"....well, I gotta ask "have you SEEN the Arizona Cardinals?" They are putrid. Their left tackle will get their QB killed. "One Move" Wimbley was beating him like a drum.
