OK, I get it, OSU has a bowl ban, thus has no chance at a BCS title. What if they run the table convincingly, and the BCS champ has one loss? Can they still be the "AP Champ?" (similar to USC in 2003-2004)

Doubtful. With 49 states that aren't called Ohio believing the sanctions were too lenient, they'll not be thought of highly in any regard.

I don't see them getting above 15th in the AP no matter what they do.

I'd rather they use next year to build depth and develop young players anyway.

Possible? Yes, technically. But the 2004 USC team was lightyears better than the 2012 Ohio State team will be.

Wow--can you also tell me what the lottery numbers will be for for next week's drawing?

They can have the resume to win it, but as mentioned previously, there's no way the voters will allow it.

Possible yes? And it would take a lot for it to happen. Every other team would need to lose at least 1 game. And OSU would have to beat 4-5 top 20 teams pretty convincingly. It wouldn't hurt if 1 or 2 of those wins would be against top 10 ranked teams.

I don't think that was a bold claim. That 2003 USC team was pretty incredible. Not saying OSU couldn't go unbeaten (I don't think they will, but the schedule is favorable), but the USC team was definitely more talented than the 2012 OSU team is going to be. I believe over 50 players from the 2003 USC roster played in the NFL at some point.

Thank you, Mulva, for validating his post. My reply was in jest, playing on Toby's claim to how the 2012 "will be". Again, thank you.

btw, could you please provide me with a link, or some sort of verification, on the 50+ players from that 2003 roster that played in the NFL? I'd appreciate it.

I cannot, I usually just take ccrunner's advice and play his usual numbers.

69 69 69 69 69 x11

Don't forget 11 for the kicker, assuming they still run that (age of consent in the shower room, so obviously, a very important number in his heart).

Now that is the kind of roster a good crooked recruiting budget can get you.

It was the 2003 USC team, 2004 was BCS champs. They were lightyears ahead because of illegal recruiting techniques IMO. Also, the 2003 USC team that won the AP title were better than 2012 OSU most likely will be, however, the college football landscape was much better then too, IMO.

Illegal recruiting techniques? Such as?

It's not a "most likely," there is simply no way that the 2012 team gets close to the 2003 USC team. There is no way. I'm going to be very interested in how the offense works, we saw what his Florida teams were like post-Percy Harvin. I think the world of Urban Meyer, but I question the strength of the receiving corp (I do think Stoneburner is one of the best in the country). Simply put, without stretching the field vertically can the offense really take off next year? I'm not a doubter, but perhaps just not a sold believer in it yet. He needs some elite speed on the edges in my opinion. When that happens he will probably blow the lid off of the Big Ten, as expected.
