SMH....read the rules.... rules that Harrison had to be familiar with.

The suspension is ridiculous
+1...It should have been twice that.

One thing that has been lost in all the piling on Harrison is the toughness of Colt McCoy. I try to avoid watching Browns games but Im pretty sure Colt isn't setting the world on fire. However, I admire and became a fan of his after coming back after that hit and playing hard in a tight game. Shows he's a gamer.

He showed a flash of brilliance on the first drive (as did the rest of the Cleveland O). I don't know how much of that ability he's shown this season but I hope he can build upon the skill set he does have and make the Browns competitive.

Makes you wonder if he couldve done something late in the game if he have known exactly where he was and what he was doing.

There is no doubt McCoy is tough....but that may prove to be his undoing, ...only so many hits you can take like that.

One thing that bothers me os the invention of the word "concussed".....as in "to give someone a concussion". Nobody ever heard that term used before, in football at least. No way that should be part of football lexicon. It never was in the past because you didn't see that kind of injury purposely inflicted outside of a boxing ring. Football is a rough game by nature, but the common injuries in the past involved ribs and ankle and knees.

I don't buy the assertion that rules to protect players from these kinds of dangerous hits "pussify" the NFL. Rather I think the NFL has gotten more violent, and that players perform for the highlight shows. Football has always involved violent collisions, but an increase in violent, dangerous hits does not necessarily translate into 'better' football. Maybe it makes for more entertainment for the fans, but they are not the ones risking early onset Parkinson's. I'm not sure the NFL really wants that legacy.

Agreed. It's one thing if it's 1975 and a smaller/not fast Jack Lambert lays a hit like that. It's a completely different story when a freak like Harrison is doing it. You now have players approaching 270 lbs at the LB position who might be able to run sub 4.5's. That's a recipe for disaster with a head on collision.

Peter Kings thoughts on the play

That said, I urge you to watch the play again. If you're a defensive player and your job is to tackle the ball-carrier, who appears to be in the process of running and not passing, you have to wonder what a defensive player can do in this case. McCoy took five full strides as a runner with the ball tucked under his arm. Just before contact, he pulled the ball out and threw it. By that time, Harrison was already coiling to strike.
He should have aimed lower. We know that. But the fact is, until a split-second before Harrison knew that McCoy was going to throw the ball, he was a runner, with the protection of a running back; that means that he could have been hit in the helmet. I'm just not a big fan of suspending a guy on such a borderline play.

Get over it. Harrison is a thug. He's on the bench this week where he belongs.

That's pretty much how I feel about it. Illegal hit? Yes, but it was a bang bang play. I said it before, he should have pulled up and/or hit lower with his shoulder, but easier said than done for a 250lb gorilla running full speed.

and without Harrison's past history he would not have been suspended for that hit, is it really that hard to understand that?

Steelers linebacker James Harrison’s already futile attempt to have his one game suspension overturned has taken a devastating blow. Head coach Mike Tomlin chimed in on the issue in a fashion that should serve as a blueprint for Lions Jim Schwartz.

“He hit him illegally,” Tomlin said of Harrison’s helmet-to-helmet hit on Cleveland quarterback Colt McCoy during Thursday’s game at Heinz Field. “He has to suffer the consequences.”

“It’s a foul,” Tomlin continued. “The quarterback just released the pass and is defenseless.

Actually, it's not hard to understand at all. I saw a suspension coming as soon as the flag left the refs hand.

Given the current relationship that King Goodell has with the Steelers , do you really think it would be prudent for Tomlin to disagree with the King's decision. Sorry, Tomlin is smart enough to keep his real thoughts to himself and move on. There is NOTHING to be gained by criticizing the decision.

So now you're in Tomlin's head thinking for him?

He is a smart guy and a smart guy would do exactly what he did.It doesn't take a mind reader to figure that out.

We can debate this for months to come. However, The fact is the Nfl is and always will be reactive not pro-active
with it's rules. i hear people say that the Nfl is wussified because of the rules. It really is wussified because of the
players. Examples: after a 30 yard run or catch players wanted spelled, miss games because of strep throat, put in there collective bargaining agreement no more two a days and limited contact during practice. If you look at todays injury list compared to just 10 years ago it is pathetic. The league has always implemented rules that the players want. James Harrison is a victim of what his peers wanted. if the players as a whole were so outraged by the rules, I'd believe they would be alot more vocal as a group, not just a guy here or there! Just my opinion in this spirited debated.

Tomlin is awesome. Whether he said that because he meant it or to not piss off the league. Either way....kudos to him.

Harrison is a head hunter, pure and simple. He was born 40 years too late. In today's game, it's a penalty. He's a repeat offender and won't change until they hit him with major suspensions/fines.

In a related story, I listened to most of the Holgrem press conference today. (Happened to be in the car when it came on, and couldn't change the station).

A couple of points that make no sense to me....

1. No one on the sidelines saw the hit on McCoy? What the fuck are they all doing while the play is going on? WKNR had Burge, or Zuppa on Tuesday night they were in the press box at Heinz Field and HEARD the hit on the field, yet no on the browns sidelines saw the hit or thought to take some precaution? I agree, Shurmer doesn't get fired for not being more dilligent in ordering a sideline concussion test, but c'mon man someone had to see/hear that collision and think there might be something other than his hand we need to look at.

2. Holgrem hasn't spoken to McCoy (Colt) since the incident? What the fuck? You are the quarterback guru and you can't tear yourself away from whatever the fuck you do all day to check in on your injured quarterback? Amazing.

Obviously Heckert needs to be aggressive in the FA market this off season, but this debacle coupled with the staph infection fiasco of a few years ago has to make a quality free agent think twice about how much value the franchise places on player safety.
