I'd like to beat the shit out of Gates. Unfortunately I can't round up 7 friends to go with me.
The thing was just embarrassing. Gary Payton never talked shit when he was losing by double digits.

There was thuggery shown by both teams, but unfortunately, Little Danny, Cinci's gonna' get the worst of it publicity-wise.

The comments on the podium after the game made them sound like thugs more so than the fighting I think. That was flat out stupid to let the players on the mics after that type of a brawl

He addressed it as well as one could, IMO. I could see the dude who threw the punch no longer being on the team, and maybe the one who stomped too.karen lotz;1010413 wrote:Cronin did a pretty good job in his post game presser. Starts talking about the brawl around the 3:30 mark.

Just saw the postgame presser, and you're right, Cronin was great...now we'll see if his bite is as bad as his bark

Cronin's comments were great, but he should have had better control of them in the first place. The Cincinnati players should take most punishment, but Tu Holloway and Mark Lyons were thugs and their postgame comments were embarassing. Sad day for the rivalry.

"That’s what you’re going to see from Xavier and Cincinnati," Holloway said after the game. "We got disrespected a little bit before the game, guys calling us out. We’re a tougher team. We’re grown men over here. We’ve got a whole bunch of gangsters in the locker room—not thugs, but tough guys on the court. And we went out there and zipped them up at the end of the game." As things were trying to be returned to normal after the incident, Holloway went up to Xavier's beat writer, Shannon Russell and told her to Tweet that, "Xavier put them in an (expletive) body bag."

A message from UC President, Dr. Gregory Williams:
I'm extremely disappointed with what happened at the end of today's Crosstown Shootout. I am reviewing this situation with (athletic director) Whit Babcock and (UC men's basketball head coach) Mick Cronin and we are working to ensure this will never happen again. I appreciate Coach Cronin's strong post-game comments and I want to support his position that this behavior is not what we expect of representatives of the University of Cincinnati. We will thoroughly investigate this incident and will act swiftly and firmly. We hold our student-athletes to a high standard and this behavior will not be tolerated. - President Williams

Xavier President, Fr. Graham's statement...
"Xavier University takes very seriously the unsportsmanlike events which occurred at the close of today's Crosstown Shootout. This behavior was not representative of Xavier's standards and has no place in intercollegiate athletics. Our basketball program is expected to, and has for so many years now, represented the highest ideals of sportsmanship and ethical conduct. We are reviewing the incident in its entirety and, in conjunction with the Atlantic 10 Conference, will take appropriate action. We regret that this incident happened and apologize to our loyal fans, the Xavier family and the entire Cincinnati community."
A press conference will be held tomorrow with head coach Chris Mack to further address this matter. Details on the press conference will be sent out tomorrow.

That press conference was embarrassing. Xavier went from looking bad to looking completly embarrassing. It sounds like a press conference from a boxing match. Xavier made the worst possible move in the press conference. Just stupid to let those kids go out threre and say what they did. Shows no class at all from Xavier.
On the other hand Cincy handled it perfectly or as well as you can after a situation. IMO they coach did everything he could to try and make cicny look a little bit respectable.

It's being reported charges were filed against XU Center Kenny Frease for assaulting a woman after the game. Apparently this occurred on the court right after the brawl. The woman was the wife of a UC basketball asst. coach.

I was tempted to change the thread title to Mike Tyson's Crosstown Punchout.

A guy I went to Xavier with does the news for WCPO. I haven't seen him post anything about it. He was on the floor for the game today, and said he was right near all the action. But I haven't seen anything about it.wes_mantooth;1010827 wrote:If this is true....this thing just got instantly more embarrassing
I'll be sure to post what he says. But I can't find any links about Kenny Frease assaulting anyone.

I just cant picture this being true. From what I saw, Frease had a camera on him the whole time because of his mangled face.sherm03;1010841 wrote:A guy I went to Xavier with does the news for WCPO. Only place I've seen it was a report from a Bearcat message board that kept being repeated. You would think with the attention the game received it would be on cbs.sports, cnnsi or espn.comwes_mantooth;1010847 wrote:I just cant picture this being true.
