I agree with this. But Kansas looked bad last night at home versus (who I think has a shot at the NCAAs) Long Beach State. LBS is a solid team, but no way that should have been a 4 pt game with 30 seconds to go.

Yeah, but only 60-some points against Texas Pan-American without Sully? While you could say that everyone else was as cold as they were hot against Duke, still, a chump opponent like that shouldn't hold a good team to less than 80. Even if the good team is playing their back-ups for as many minutes as the starters.

Without Sully, Kansas is very scary. If they aren't much better from outside than against T-PA, they'll lose and it might be ugly.

And you don't think Kansas and Allen won't be just a "little more" jacked up playing #2 OSU than they were vs LBST? You know as well as I do that the top teams will get the best shot from those going against them.

Goes both ways though. OSU is gonna be a little more pumped playing @ AFH than they were at home versus TPA.

I said I agree, I was just pointing out Kansas has a tendency to be mediocre this season. OSU is Elite.

Did I watch Ohio State/Pan American? No lol I did not...

I'm not saying Kansas is bad, more that OSU is a lot better than Kansas...with or without Sully.

Tyshawn Taylor doesn't even start anymore lol They're not a very good team this year. I do agree w/ the crowd they might be in for a while, but OSU should pull away.

OSU is a bad shooting team from outside. If they aren't scoring inside and at the line, they struggle. The game against Pan American was fugly; especially the outside shooting.

I doubt OSU will be able to drive and score around the basket like they did with Duke, if Sullinger has to sit down. Combine that with this being OSU's first road game, and the youngsters getting their first taste of a truly hostile environment, and the outcome is very much in doubt.

I keep hearing that OSU is a bad outside shooting team. Except for the last game I thought they were ok. Do the stats say otherwise?

I think people just like to say they are bad from the outside because we don't have 3bler anymore.

With the exception of Duke, it's seemed like they'll have one guy who's on (and raises the team 3-P percent to a less bad 30s), but the rest of the outside shooters are cold. The "on" guy changes from game to game.

This. There's no consistency whatsoever. Even Buford is streaky. His end of the year percentage will say he shoots 3s at about 45 percent or so (it did last season) but from one game to the next, his percentages are all over the place. Look at Kentucky in the tournament as one example of the bad.

Right now, there is nobody on that team who can consistently hit longer jump shots night after night. There are a lot of guys who can get hot on any given night; but no one shooter who is pretty solid.

Lots of guys who can drive and create shots, though, which is how this team has to make its living.

I've heard nothing new on Sullinger except a comment today that he is still being evaluated for Saturday. I'm guessing he'll be close to a game-time decision (maybe the day before).

Personally, I think without Sullinger, this game is pretty even matchup. Sullinger is the X-factor with this OSU team. I mean the guy is an all american, in the post. He creates so much more for the rest of the team. Without him, that completely changes the defensive strategy. Teams dont' have to double down. OSU doesn't shoot the 3 very well at all as mentioned above. Without Sullinger, OSU is not a top 10 team. Maybe top 15. Just about where Kansas currently is. And again, Kansas on home court, I'd give them edge to them without Sullinger in the lineup. Even with Sullinger, I personally think KU will hang with OSU.

Matta said he will err on the side of caution.

Matta knows the back is nothing to screw around with if there's problems. It's very easy to trust his judgment on this. I'll bet Jared will be chomping at the bit, though. If they decide to sit him, they may have to use restraints.

I say let him play and if he isn't good, pull him and sit him.

As long as you don't think playing him could aggravate something (unlike the rest of the site, I don't know what the world of back spasms is like, so I don't know what the risks are in his case), try to see if he can go. The next game I'd say they NEED him would probably be 12/31 at Indiana (should be okay against SC-Upstate, South Carolina, Lamar, Miami (OH) and Northwestern).

Problem with back spasms is he could be good for the next 20 games and then BOOM out it goes again with litle rhyme or reason why. If he's having these problems at age 20 he has a lifetime of pain to look forward to.

Yes and no. It all depends on the back issue itself. Based on what was reported, he doesn't have anything serious. Just an inflamation of a disc, which in turn can cause the spasms. If he does exercises, gets treatment along with the kind of care he is going to get with OSU then the NBA, he should be fine. Buford had spasms last year, missed a game. And hasn't missed one since.
Lets hope this is a one time issue.

I think that Jared Sullinger has a legit back injury. I think the rest of you who are whining about your chronic back injuries need to take a percocet and get a tissue for all this crying.
