I love the Red "O" at mid-field....and I went to that site last night before I posted and saw the proposed field, kind of cool this is becoming a reality! What a great community Orrville is!Old Rider;1180406 wrote:Yes...the Red ''O" at mid-field looks much better than the white one that has been proposed.

I just think that plain white "O" looks generic.....I know I know, why am I complaining about getting turf lol I just think the red O at Mid-Field looks great!! Needless to say this is long overdue and I'm glad it is becoming a reality.RedRider1;1180508 wrote:End zones would be red with white lettering, but I think the midfield O would be white.
Should be announcing this to the public very soon...lots of behind the scenes stuff happening right now.
I mean maybe it is just the quality of the drawing but I think this field looks generic....and if we are putting turf in why not do it the right way and make it look state of the art!
Here is the proposed field:

The field I think we all would like to see (plus soccer lines added on)

So what is the turf fund up to? $10,005.89? Long way to go. Gotta hold some fundraisers.

The "red" "O" at midgield perhaps could be a trademark infringement on Thee Ohio State University....just a thought!

White/Red who cares that is an awesome looking field. That will be a stadium as good as anywhere around here and has the tradition to back it up.

We're a few bucks higher than that.

FYI: the Big33 Ohio vs Pa football game will be live on he NFL network on Sat. 6/16 at 7pm. Mason Monheim & Adam Wallace will play for Ohio.
If you're on Armstrong, the NFL net is on a higher tier that costs extra.

Fundraiser Idea: Sell "Beat Wooster" Brownies. Sold in packs of 7...for the # of consecutive wins, of course.
That oughta raise a few dollars.

I say we have Medina Sod Co. come in with their special equipment and rip the field up in a way that it can be laid at Follis Field.
Its a "win-win" for both schools. We would get to play on our old field when we travel to Wooster...and Wooster players would get the sense of what it feels like to play on a winning field!!

The soccer teams which play at Follis are well versed at winning, but thanks for the offer.

Does the transfer of the sod include the huge hump in the middle of the field? If so it's a deal.Old Rider;1184959 wrote:I say we have Medina Sod Co. come in with their special equipment and rip the field up in a way that it can be laid at Follis Field.

Well, the turf field committee is going public and asking for donations. You can donate at this web site: http://www.redriderturf.com/ . Its a real possibility that we can have turf this season. $429,000 has been raised from a few major donors and that leaves around $320,000 to be raised by a 1-2 month campaign. It takes 10 weeks to complete the project and if we can get enough commitments to get started it can happen. I'm sure it can be done, then all the county teams can come here for their play off games. So I'm assigning 1 beast the southern half of Wayne County and Miyagi and Red Rum the northwestern part of the county and The Ringz the western half of the county. Report back to me when you've raised your $100,000. Jerry's is re-opening soon and we'll meet their and collect your donations.

I already have your donation from Wooster already, it's in a shoebox and is most likely a Health Department violation to bring it into Jerry's. PM me we can arrange a time for me to drop it off.

Still a few bigger donors left to hear from. Total could be over $500,000 by this time next week...and that would get us close enough to at least get the ball rolling & sign papers with a contractor. Track will be getting done too at the same time.Flash;1185189 wrote:Well, the turf field committee is going public and asking for donations. There was talk of potentially moving the Triway game to their place in week 2, giving us 4 away games to start the season and also time to finish the turf, but it appears that if they start by late June, it could be finished by Sept. 1st and in time for the first home game vs. the Titans.
Great to see the Orrville business community step up again. Simply amazing.

BUT, its always hard to get the last amount because most of those donations are smaller amounts. We need to show that RTR and have everyone donate what they can to get to the goal (pun).

Exactly..just because this project may start soon doesn't mean all the $$ is raised. The business community has done the heavy lifting, but there's still plenty of work left.

it would be great to pull this off before our first home game. That would be a big draw to see the new field and have Triway as the first to take the new turf.

Good news....we raised $450,000 on our 1st annual Mighty Miyagi Hawaiian Junket.
Bad news....administrative fees, vodka, hookers & jet fuel came to $1,900,000.....any chance the turf committee could spot us 1.45 mill (just until we get this fundraising thing down)
.....and I almost forgot, Bloodys in the Lahaina Jail on Maui....Public indecency is no joke there.
Anyway, he needs money for his commissary. Donations would be appreciated.
on a serious note: good luck on this project, I can hardly wait to see the finished product.

Here's the details & numbers that were given to me last week. Project is public (will appear in the various local papers this week & next)...donations being solicited from alums & past players.

Hearing contract may be signed by Mid June and work to begin maybe by the end of June or first part of July.
Likely that field would be ready for first home game vs. Triway in week 2. Exciting times!

At least the new turf will look good, cause the Riders are in for a long year on the new surface.
