How will Orrville fair this upcoming season? Key players? Returning starters? last years JV/frosh records?

They all were able to find affordable housing in their home town.

Let’s get some Orrville football talk started; we have some pretty big shoes to fill this upcoming season, who do you see in the offensive back field and defensive back field, it was comforting to see some of the freshmen fill in when we needed them last year?

Tentatively, Orrville and Smithville in the same division V.

This will not happen until 2013, after the next enrollment figures come out after the 2012-13 school year when they take the 9th they 11th grades entering next fall's school year, so the D5 guess is just using the last figures, which for example put Orrville at 214 boys and 216 next fall would make us D5 and Smithville on the other end of D6 is at 161, so a loss of 2 boys would make them a D6. So we just wait until the number are released after the start of school in the fall, but using the last figures, Orrville, Smithville and even Dalton are close to moving up or down in the new divisions.
Most teams in this area basically will move down a division.

Also Dalton had 109 last time and the cutoff for D7 would be 111, so they are close, however the OHSAA release says D7 is up to 111, but D6 starts at 114, so if Dalton has 112 or 113 they aren't in either, Oooops

Orrville football would be D-5 if this competitive balance thing passes (by about 6 boys)....Orrville basketball would stay in D-3 (barely, thanks to the "free lunch" factor).

But...the 'success factor' could impact both numbers.

The state says in football, if you make the 2nd round of the playoffs in 4 of the previous 8 years, you get punished with a 6% increase in your boys count. We've made the 2nd round in 2011, 2010 and 2009. So if we make the 2nd round anytime between now and 2016, we get 6% added to our count of 214 (or whatever it will be next year when they count again). 214 x 6% is 226.84. That would put us back in to Div. 4.

Same thing with basketball....the state says making the Sweet 16 in basketball in 4 of the 8 previous years would earn the same 6% success penalty. So if we win another district between 2012-13 and 2016-17, we would get that 6% tacked on to our enrollment and more than likely jump back into D-2.

Oh and also....Copley dropped us from their schedule eff. in 2013. Was told this by our AD. Basically the upside of beating us (and getting a load of 2nd level points) did not outweight the downside of potentially losing to a D-4 school.

Plan is to try & get Northwest to move to week 3 and try to fill a week 1 date. Reaching out to Barberton, Canton south, Cloverleaf, etc. Last resort will be the Akron/Cleveland city schools.

We've played Copley 38 times with first meeting back in 1954. Lots of tradition coming to an end.

Question: has there ever been a school to drop us AFTER beating us 2 years in a row?

Copley was always a fun game to play in because it was a good test as far as matching up with their athleticism and we have traditionally always played them in the first half of the season.

Sad to see them go, but maybe they see into the future and playing a "potential" D5 team is not in their gameplan!

How about Dover, after beating us in 05 and 06 when they knew we would be D4 in the future.

Copley is probably looking ahead and seeing the number of "smaller" DI schools dropping down and joining them in D2 such as Massillon, and think they need to play a D2 or D3 schedule to have a shot at playoffs.

Rider, from my understanding, NW will play Niles Mckinley week 3 in 2013. Canton South dropped us. So it looks like the NW Orrville will be week one for a while
