Perhaps the coach/player family member knows that to a point perhaps they're right in some of their critique.

Some of you guys (especially you rr1), are always defending the coaches as doing a good job and asking why don't they visit the coaches (as they (have an open-door), and air their disgruntlement. Currently, Coach Slaughter is 1-6/1-7, you didn't do much to defend Coach Short and he never had a losing record and you yourself criticized him. With all your criticism, did you ever air your disgruntlement face-to-face?
I've never aired my disgruntlement with any coach. Unless my kids play sports someday I can't see myself ever having any kind of meeting with a coach. Those are rarely productive meetings.

Short did enough on his own to lose his job....so why are we still talking about him?

He produced more lawsuits (1) than he did district titles (0) in his time at Orrville. Sly already has 2 district titles and a state final appearance...so the argument ends right there.

Hey Series62 why don't you go talk to coach Sly since you continue to talk about how bad the basketball team is and list the record. I am sure you think you could do better as most fans and parents in the stands think. Everybody in the stands seems to know what is best for the team and the coach does not have a clue. Sometimes you just don't have the players to get the job done. Question can Sly go out and make a shot or play defense on the court? NO! He can only put the players in position to have a opportunity to excel, they have to make the shot, make the pass, play defense etc... Also incase you have not noticed the OCC is a pretty solid league from top to bottom, their are no cupcakes this year.

You've aired plenty regarding Coach Short, especially on jjhuddle and he didn't lose the job, he stepped down from it.

It was much easier for the team to win 2 district titles and make the state title appearance win the team moved down a division and to a weaker region. Why else would you be able to be seeded as high as Orrville was with a losing record, much the same as some are predicting a #4 seed even if Orrville has only 5-6 wins.

Have I really said anything bad about the team or the coaches. If saying that they have a losing record and question some play calling is bad,...oh well! Therefore, I don't need to talk to Coach Sly! If that alley-oop inbound play was called by the coaches, it was and is a poor call considering the talent on the team!

If you read with comprehension, I premised the record in a question to rr1 and it isn't like I exposed a well kept secret. Don't be offended with me because I said something some of you want to say but are too afraid to!

Record correction...1-8!

I read fine with comprehension I have a college degree (yea for me!). I am not offended with your comments I am just defending the program, you can nit pick all you want about coach Sly and continue to defend Short. You are right about dropping down a division it may have made it easier to get out of the Wooster district instead of Canton. But when you get to the Regionals there are very good teams there in division III and you have to have your "A" game when you step on the court, and to get to Columbus you have to be pretty darn good and I think Sly brought that mental toughness they needed to the team IMO. Why don't you ask some of the former Alums that go to games and players that played or watched coach Short and coach Sly and ask them what they thought about how/have both coaches ran the program, games, practices etc.... See what kind of information you get.

Hey Orrville fans-

What's all this I'm hearing about Orrville leaving the OCC?

RR1, any truth to this?

Shoot , why not just get all the Wayne county schools in. Wooster , Orrville, triway, and add W.Holmes , Cloverleaf, and Northwest and have big and small divisions with Loudonville, Tuslaw and Fairless as other possibilities to join.

This is the first I heard that.......now I know we (Orrville admin.) were pretty upset at the select OCC schools that were against expanding and adding Dover, New Philly, and Northwest...Ashland, Lex, and Mansfield's wanted to expand West. Wooster just doesnt want to keep getting beat by smaller schools.

As far as Orrville wanting to leave....I doubt it. I will say that we were definately put in our place by Norwayne last season, but I don't think that merits us joining the WCAL.

Orrville is looking to get out of OCC because of all the traveling. I think if they were to go to another league or create one like they want with Northwest, Dover etc. they would cut down on it, from what I am hearing and a few other reasons as well.

^ I did find that link that says this, but I won't believe it until a more valid source says it......I don't really get the desire to get out of the conference....other than eliminating 5-10 minutes in drive time. Other than Lex and Clear Fork, all the drives are under an hour and drives to Dover and New Philly are the same to Ashland/Mansfield. I guess their is a bigger reason nobody wants to talk about, because just to play the travel card doesn't really make much sense.

^^ Yea I am sure there is more to it but that was one thing from what I understand, and I do have a very solid source. I guess we will have to wait and see.

I for one would not be unhappy to see Mansfield Senior go away, all the times officials were not scheduled, late getting to events, or our teams getting items stolen a number of times! But I would miss the renovated football field, nice place to watch a game.

I tuned in and it was good to hear a local radio personality give some credit to our program, coaches, and current/past players.

I doubt too many D4 programs in the state can say that they have 3 players in the Big Ten and 3 in the MAC at the same time.

Good interview. Ray Jeske is a real supporter of high school athletics, and reaches anywhere in the state to get kids and programs some attention. He hustles.

Very nice for sure. It is not that new for Orrville. I remember 3 in the big 10,1 in the SEC and 1 in the MAC at the same time! Says alot about the community and the program. Good job Riders.
