I have enough empty beer cans in my basement to have the stadium named after me.

Whoa!!

That's pretty pricey. My guess on the breakdown,
$600,000 for field turf
$250,000 on the new track

and maybe $150,000 to remove the existing hump/mountain range down the middle of the field

I see only one problem here-

Where will the ski club practice?

I'd donate money to get field turf at Red Rider Stadium.....I just think it will be awhile though before we get it with all the new schools being built plus the multi-purpose building.

I was told the multi-purpose building was built with private donations which is evident to some degree from the plaque on the wall at the entrance. I also heard that it is a private facility. Is that true or false?

Regardless, why raise so much money to build a separate facility, and then begin construction of a new school building when it would have been more cost effective for the two to be built as one entity?

Because the state would not have allowed it. Have to follow their rules when spending their money. New high school can't even be connected to the new gym or the multi purpose building...we have to do that ourselves with our own money once we get the occupancy permit from the state.

Lots of hoops to jump through.

And I think at the time the multi purpose center was built, a new high school wasn't a certainty.

About the turf...i'd guess it's purely exploratory...lots of factors to consider involved in a very expensive project.

Around $750,000 but again this wouldn't be a school funded project. It would depend on private donations with a few large donations. A committee has been formed to look into the prospect and feasibility of this project. My inclination is to go ahead and bang away at it until enough funds are raised. You run a campaign and see what you come up with and then just keep hammering away at it until you come up with enough money. RTR thats the way we do it. This is something that the community wants and all it will take is a little hard work and persistence. We're used to that. A name has already been suggested and it begins with an M and ends with an O. As a player we didn't always agree , but respect for him as a mentor and the tradition and community that supported me will never end.

High School construction began this fall and the multi-purpose facility was completed in the winter/spring last year. Had the new high school been designed and planned prior to certainty of funding? Is the new gym privately funded also! Isn't it more costly to operate all these "separate" facilities?

When you build a new school you have to follow the state guidelines for size etc and anything else you want you have to pay for. The State will pay for a basic gym. We've decided to add a few extra's seating wise. They wouldn't have paid for a multipurpose facility. That was privately funded and given to the school system. Its not a private facility and is part of the school system, but is used by staff and students and anyone that wants to pay the rental charges. The multipurpose facility is using gas from our gas well, so it cheap right now to operate. When you build a new school the State will only fund so many square feet of space. If we don't attach the old part of the school we're going to keep (cafeteria, shop, locker rooms, auditorium), to the new school and attach it later we can build a bigger high school square foot wise now paid for by the State. The Architects have designed the new high school so it can be easily attached to the old section of the school were keeping and the multipurpose facility at a time that the State will let us do that without a penalty. That's why the multipurpose facility was built where it was because we knew it could be easily attached to a new high school with a short corridor.

Why on earth would Mcdaniels come back to orrville ? This guy is a big time coach. I do not think he would be willing to work under your current coach and have all his play calls changed to pitch right, pitch left.

Series you are correct. I have a friend who spoke to Devault about working out there before and was told no. Even though he works in orrville and graduated from orrville. He was told only students, even though some of devaults personal friends are allowed to use facility. I know this is true because i work with one fellow who is allowed in to use weightroom and he is in his 30s. He also happens to be a friend of devaults. Imagine that !

The facility belongs to the school. It is not Coach Davault's facility or in the ownership of any other coach. Former players and coaches use the facility from all sports and levels of the district at all hours. The underlying rule is that a staff member should be present. Probably not happening 100% of the time because multiple people have keys. It is not a facility where a person can go to "workout" on his own. I don't know the details of your "friend's" request but sounds like Coach D would have had to be the one supervising the guy. If Coach D said no then he didn't want to be the spotter.....if a coach says yes to someone and supervised them ,,,,then no problem. Don't try to lay this on coach D like he is the governing body of the facility.....far from it.
