Waugh posed for a photo with the recruits. He posted it on Twitter this week and sent several messages via the social-media website to OSU players and recruits. That was enough to spook Anzalone, who already had experienced some regret about his early college decision, his father said.
"You would think that these kinds of people would be kept at a distance away from recruits," Sal Anzalone said. "The fact that he got close to recruits was the issue. Keep people like this away from them. I can't be everywhere."
Sal Anzalone urged his son to decommit after word began to spread about Waugh.
"Separate yourself," Sal Anzalone said, "because you don't want the NCAA thinking that you're being influenced by this joke."
No Ohio State coaches or staff members were present when the recruits met Waugh. The encounter occurred at night on campus, according to Sal Anzalone.
The elder Anzalone said he held nothing against Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and co-defensive coordinator Luke Fickell, who recruited the player.
"Ohio State had no idea that this guy was a perv," Sal Anzalone said. "They were totally unaware. Let's make that very clear. That's not Ohio State.
"But Alex was creeped out by him. He thought something was wrong. Alex wasn't going to get hurt. Alex could knock him out. But the point is, this creep shouldn't be near recruits."

His father said he might even still consider the Buckeyes.
"It's a possibility," Sal Anzalone said. "Things change. You can't hold them responsible for other people's behavior."
No matter the school, Alex Anzalone may have to stay in touch with his dad during all recruiting visits as a result of this situation.
"I want to know where he's going and what he's doing," Sal Anzalone said. "I want to be in contact with him."

I don't blame his dad for freaking out. But he's right, it's not osu's fault. It's a 100% guarantee that on every campus tonight, there's a sex offender or someone who hasn't yet been caught in a bar on campus. There's no way to police it or tell who is who.

Only way I'll have a problem with this decommitt would be if he chose PSU. Because that'd be complete hypocrisy.

Oh and technically anyone who tweets a recruit and mentions a school, to the NCAA, is a booster. Right? Isn't that what was talked about a few weeks ago. But again it's a situation that basically can't be policed.

You're getting a little testy. Got some liquid courage in ya?

NCAA says anyone that gives any money to a school whether it be through donation, buying tickets or merchandise can be viewed as a booster.

No boozing today, just bored. Yeah, I know what the NCAA says, but I just have to assume a spokesman for the university knows more about it than what I do.

A rather large assumption given last years events, right? LOL

It is what it is.

Official statement:
[INDENT] Statement from The Ohio State University Dept. of Athletics:
The issue surrounding the individual from Kentucky is being treated by the Department of Athletics as a student-athlete welfare issue. When the University became aware that this individual had been seen in pictures – taken in public places – with student-athletes, proactive precautions were taken and the Department of Athletics alerted more than 1,000 Ohio State student-athletes about this person. The email message also reminded them of the negative implications that can be realized through simple associations on social networking sites. This individual is not associated with Ohio State. He is not a booster. He has not engaged in any activities on behalf of the University. The Department of Athletics will continue to monitor this issue and it will remain proactive in its efforts with regard to precautions for its student-athletes.

What it sounds like is Anazalone wasn't all set with OSU and used this as an excuse.

I hope he goes to Michigan or another B1G school so he can lose 4 years against the buddies. What a joke of a human being and what a giant pussy. Oh noes, I'm 100lbs bigger than a guy and I'm scared for my life. Get a life, that dude sucks, he'll up going ringless at some mediocre school.

This is my feeling as well. If a kid has a change of heart, better to do it now that wait until NSD.

From reading the ESPN article again, its pretty clear the Anzalone's want to keep the door open to returning to OSU. I really hope Urban tells him 'no, thanks' and moves on. There is plenty of time before NSD to fill that spot.

It makes even less sense to me that they would keep the door to OSU open if his real reason for decommitting was the creeper.

Sounding more and more like his parents weren't on board with him going to osu amd this was the easy way for them to let it be known to him.

Yeah not sure why the creepy guy would make you de-commit. Ohio State can't be everywhere. So a creepy guy was around campus and took your picture? Big deal.

The kid had another reason for decommitting. If they were so morally outraged, he wouldn't be saying PSU is an option still.

So Ohio State is supposed to run background checks on every potential fan that exists? I hope Meyer pulls this guys offer. Him and his dad can take their dog and pony show somewhere else. Frees up a spot for someone who wants the opportunity to be a part of this team.

Amen. Urban needs to pull the offer immediately. Then make a statement to the media that he hopes Anazalone goes to a B1G school so he can lose to the Buckeyes 4 years straight before he goes undrafted and ends up working at Walmart for the rest of his life.

Hopefully they don't end up signing this kid even if he changes his mind. He seems like a moron, and his dad seems like an attention whore. Rarely a good combo.

That would be a silly statement to make to the media.

But it would be a true statement. Like I said, he will end up at ND and never win anything.

I typically am always ok with a kid decomitting, but they should just come out and admit they made a rash decision. I really hope Meyer pulls the kids schollie opportunity and moves on...which I have no doubt he'll do.
