Sorry, but I have a hard time believing Shutt wouldn't be the best player on Notre Dame on Day 1. Have you watched Notre Dame play lately? They are freaking terrible.

I'd take UM and the worst recruiting class every year for a decade rather than a coach who can barely win at SDSU with the best recruiting class for a decade.WebFire;1019904 wrote:I bet Hoke is ****ting bricks with the #3 class in the nation.
Michigan has one good year and Michigan fans start popping up out of the woodwork.

Spence would be at FloridaTobias Fünke;1019931 wrote:Schutt absolutely would have. Follow his recruitment:
1) Called Brian Kelly to commit to Notre Dame, was told basically that he wasn't good enough to take over the guys they were chasing (i.e. he's not a five-star guy).
2) Michigan tells him "thanks, but no thanks."
3) Commits to Penn State, then the shitstorm happens in State College.
4) Falls right into Ohio State's lap. Would have happened with Tressel too, in my opinion.
Spence is debatable, but tell me with Penn State imploding criminally, who would have been the favorite?
Diamand would be a snag. No question.
Schutt would have went to Illinois
JMHO.

OSU fans have been consistent in their beliefs that OSU is the greatest college football program that has ever existed. They have won more BCS bowl games than anyone and have won the most BCS conferences championships.WebFire;1019948 wrote:You mean like OSU fans did starting in 2002? Michigan has been but a footnote in the world of college football since the beginning of the fraud(read: BCS) era, you know it, I know it, hell even the dog knows it.

Also not to continually derail the topic, and to add I don't really follow recruiting because of what I call the "T. Smith effect", next year Urban will have an entire year of recruiting and there's no doubt in my mind we will have the #1 class in the country.

Well let's be a little more genuine in portraying yourself. Hell, you had to be kicked in the nuts (I know because I was doing the kicking) last year for the scUM/Ohio State game to even post some jokes and shit. You may not have crawled out of the wood work but your chest sure did puff up a lil bit this year. You're not fooling anyone here who pays attention.WebFire;1019948 wrote:You mean like OSU fans did starting in 2002? And I sure as hell ain't coming from the woodwork and you know that.

That was more of my point. I know Web is and has always been a devote Michigan fan. Michigan had a great year, no doubt, but consistency is what matters and Michigan isn't even the most consistent program in its own division much less in the conference.ytownfootball;1019955 wrote:Well let's be a little more genuine in portraying yourself. Agree. Spence's mom was quoted saying she was unsure about his recruitment until she saw Urban on TV. It was a sign from God or something because Noah's name scrolled across the bottomline at the same time.se-alum;1020053 wrote:It's all heresay where these guys would've ended up, it's not worth arguing about.

Its a premium article but the summary lays it out.

Most college coaches will tell that if you win over mom, you will usually get the kid. Urban Meyer won over Helen Spence before she had ever met the new Head Coach at Ohio State.

They were 19th before Urban got the job. Currently sit at 6th and will likely finish top 5.Benny The Jet;1019721 wrote:Don't know much about how the recruiting process works, but what's their updated rank since Urban went on this recruiting tear? What were they before he started?

Jim Tressel would have won ~10 games this season. Schutt would probably not being going to a coachless Illinois team, and Spence is debatable.OneBuckeye;1019946 wrote:Spence would be at Florida

Well duh. Who would have looked at Ohio State with sanctions looming and Luke Fickell running the show? Things looked grim for awhile.OneBuckeye;1020018 wrote: OSU wasn't even in the picture until Urban arrived.
You're looking at Ohio State's recruiting this season and comparing it to Urban's efforts. You're saying basically, on a scale of 1-10 in terms of recruiting:
Ohio State 2011: 3
Urban Meyer: 10
When you need to account for Tressel, and it could be:
Ohio State 2001-2010: 9.5
Ohio State 2012+: 10
My entire point is just that this huge surge is a bit misleading because Tressel was a damn fine recruiter and you're just seeing a rush because of the void Fickell was. I think that is a completely fair statement.
