Victor's my favorite non-Indian right now. Hope he recovers.

The Indians signed Fred Lewis...as a Reds fan, I hope this wasn't their "plan in the outfield."

I'd assume he will be playing in AAA. The Indians really don't have any outfielders that are major league ready in their farm system, so they need to add some guys to the AAA roster in case of injuries. They have some talent in the minors, but most of it is in AA or below.

Platoon OF from the Colorado Rockies. Hits right handed. Type of guy they could use w/ their left handed heavy lineup.

He was pretty awful last year, but his averages the previous 5 seasons were .287/.299/.313/.241/.279.

At least, if the report is true, the Tribe put forth real effort. Pena took less money o resign with Tampa.

Tribe trade a minor leaguer for Kevin Slowey. Good groundball ratio. Doesn't walk people. Experienced pitching in the Central. I don't hate it.

Don't hate the move. Hate his 2011 stats though. 0-8 w/6.67 ERA? Ouch. We're stockpiling #5 starters.

^^^somewhat of an injury plagued year. I don't hate it. Reporters on TV are saying that it's an insurance move in case the player formerly known as Fausto is not able to leave his country. I'm not sure where I read/heard it, but in any given year, a team can be expected to use 10 or more different pitchers in a starting role.

It does appear that Pena is re-upping with the Rays.
,,,,another 'second place' finish for Dolan.

Fausto Carmona really is a player to be named later.

Inking fringe players is pretty standard, and they are just going about the routine business of baseball. According to the article Casey Kotchman is still a possibility, now that Pena has signed with the Rays. Here is the guy we will end up with after failing evrywhere else.... a light hitting first baseman...maybe even lighter than Ben Broussard. Tribe fans best hope is for the light bulb to go off in La Porta's head.

That's what I keep hoping for Hits. Laporta has all the potential to be a legit power hitter. He just has to put it together. He has shown signs, especially going the other way. But far too inconsistent. If he could just hit .270 to .280 with 25 HRs, that would be a big help.

LaPorta is young enough that 'improvement' is still a possibility. La Porta hit 11 HRs and batted .247 last year. He needs to double his home runs and pick up his average a bit....and he needs to do that this year. I'm not going to hold my breath, but I'm a long time Tribe fan....and hoping for long shots is about all we can do. The 90's are gone and so is the owner who would take a chance and spend on a player we needed.

He's definitely a big key. Like you say, all we can do is hope. And I'm a long time fan as well, going back to the old stadium.

+100

I'd rather give LaPorta another chance than just sign somebody for the sake of it. Kotchman is the definition of a "meh" signing... I mean, I guess he'd be ok as a spot starter.

I don't think the Tribe ever signed anyone to a contract comparable to this even when Jacobs was the owner. The Tigers are paying Cabrera and Fielder approximately $44 million per year. WOW.

You have to spend money to make money. The Jacobs were smart they knew bringing in bigger names would pay for its self. Dolan is just a Jew ass bastard
