He wouldnt have to go in the draft accoring to this 2009 article.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4194437

There is a small paragraph about it saying he could just sign as a free agent.

I am not 100% certain, but I think this is how it works. If you are not drafted after you are eligible then you are a free agent. You can declare for the draft 3 years removed from HS. Basically, since he was 'draft eligible' 3 years after HS, and now he is well past that and is just a free agent.

It is like if a player does not get drafted after he declared early or after his senior year, he becomes a free agent to sign with whomever and whenever

One of the dumbest posts in OC history. Not because you said basketball but because the claim that any sport is the "greatest" is fucking retarded.

I apologize for not reading through the thread as I'm tits on a boar hog....but if LeBron was given the opportunity to play in the NFL, I'm not sure if he would be good, great or MJ in baseball....but I know one thing......everyone would be watching. A rating's monster.

He practiced with ASVSM recently and their DB's were only allowed to jam him at the line. Absolutely NO contact after that point. And their biggest guy was out of practice, which is why Bron was there.

Perhaps, but then again the NBA ceased being basketball a long time ago.

Probably for the best for all parties involved. LeBron probably doesn't want to blow out a knee or anything and I doubt the ASVSM parents would be too thrilled about their teenage sons being trucked by a 6'9" 260 lb freak.

Or Nike wouldn't want to try and hide another youtube video of Lebron getting trucked by a High School football player.

Given time in the sport, LeBron James could absolutely play in the NFL. It doesn't mean he would be great. It doesn't mean he would be good. However, the qualifiers to even consider it (size, speed, athleticism, strength, agility, etc...), he has. It would be a matter of finding a position, learning it, practicing it, getting used to playing speed (this would be the toughest as there wouldn't be a transition from high school to college to the pros like everyone else gets) and then applying it in the right situation. Like others said, it would take time. Lots of it. However, he COULD achieve it. This is not an NBA player trying to go play baseball like Jordan. That's a totally different animal that takes a completely different set of specific skills that aren't nearly as closely related as football and basketball are.

He might have the skills to play in the NFL, but does not have the heart and would pussy out after the first decent hit.
