He was getting paid for jobs he didn't even show up to. Regardless of the amount of money, that is going to be severly punished. I really don't understand the defense of this
Nobody gets thrown in jail for a year for speeding going a few miles over the limit even if they do it twice. The punishment is heavy handed for the amount involved and the fact that it did not provide Ohio State any undue advantage on the football field. Unless it can be shown that OSU got some sort of recruitment advatage...e.g. multiple boosters funnelling large amounts of cash to get recruits to come to OSU, it hurt nobody. If he was a medical student on a full ride, and someone gave him some extra cash, no one would give s#&t.
I realize that anal among us won't get this at all...He broke a rule , he broke a rule! He broke a rule!.

The rule book has bloated beyond control and it's enforcement is heavy handed and selective.

The NCAA has built a super highway and posted a 25 MPH speed limit on it. The high way funnels hundreds of millions of dollars to evryone but the athlete. Worse, it has been lowering the speed limit making it more and more difficult for those on it to comply with....and the fines are going up and up and up.

Now before anyone accuses me of saying this only because it's Ohio State (a terrible argument), I am arguing this for anyone from from any school (including TSUN). I have felt this for years...the troubles at OSU simply provides the forum.

I didn't feel bad for Posey with the whole 5 game suspension, but now I feel bad for Posey. The penalty does not fit the crime, its absolutely ridiculous.

The NCAA's inconsistency and hypocrisy are fair game. If you can't see that, you're a moron.

I think Gee needs to go too. On PTI they quoted him as saying something to the extent that "Ohio State was/is the model of compliance"

It seems as if any time those guys open their mouth they say something stupid

"a mistake"?? He's made multiple mistakes. Dude broke rules after being caught previously. He is a piece of garbage and has no business being around the team

Gee said OSU is the poster child for compliance.

I still don't think his actions deserve a 9 game suspension. You can have a booster buy you hookers and dope and get a few game suspension yet Posey gets the majority of the season for some extra cash?

He didnt get 9 games for extra cash. He got 5 for Tatgate and then chose to violate rules AGAIN and got 5 more. He has also likely gotten OSU the maximum sanctions that the NCAA was considering. Not the death penalty because OSU is too big of a school for the NCAA to give that to, but they are almost certain to be bent over after this one.

Exactly. He deserves everything he gets. He broke NCAA rules once, got penalized and still decided to break rules again. That's putting up a middle finger to the NCAA and for that you can be sure that they are going to lay some serious sanctions down.

Distancing ourselves from Posey might help save us from more severe sanctions. However for whatever reason Smith decided to go to bat for Posey AGAIN. Inexplicable.

Ok. I don't think his violations deserve 10 games or whatever it is. I also don't think OSU gets the maximum that the NCAA was considering

I can see it, but you are comparing Posey's multiple infractions to a totally different NCAA witch hunt. You are the moron. Plenty of hot air in your glass house.

As I said and predicted:

witnessed.

I think Gee needs to go too. On PTI they quoted him as saying something to the extent that "Ohio State was/is the model of compliance"
...yeah, like football is the only thing a college president has to do.LOL Moreover, Gee is right too. Even well intentioned programs find it impossible to fully comply year after year. Joe Paterno's son stated it succinctly when asked how PSU continues to be the only public university that has never been cited for a major infraction. He said something to the effect that 'we hold our breath every year'.(paraphrased)

I'll stand by what I said at the bottom of the last page....that the NCAA rules are bloated beyond the ability of well intentioned programs to fully ensure compliance. The enforcement of those rules are heavy handed, selective, and restrictive....and it is getting worse.

The NCAA does have ridiculous rules and many punishments are ridiculous. But Posey, after already violating NCAA rules, decided to accept money for no show jobs. It's beyond defensable. It's so idiotic it's embarrassing they let him continue to be a part of the team.

WTF are you talking about? I was taking the NCAA to task for its obvious hypocrisy and inconsistency in how it punishes athletes. That's it. Nothing more. The only hot air in this forum is between your ears -- it's probably the only thing keeping your head from imploding.

I'm talking about your racist, classless swipe you took at Floyd. Saying if Posey was a poor black kid....
You are just a dumbass beeyotch.

....and now Posey's attorney has released the records and documents that were ignored by the NCAA.

Meanwhile Jacory Harris from Miami skated with a one game suspension from taking direct money from a known drug dealer and felon....and no, he wasn't even pretending to work!

Thus proving my statement about there being nothing between your ears but hot air.

What the NCAA did with Floyd was the most singular racist and hypocritical things I've seen in a long time. They basically decided, on their own, that one particular poor black man deserved better treatment than other people who have gotten in trouble with the NCAA, black or white.

It was beyond stupid and unfair to every other athlete who has taken extra benefits. Either you have rules and standards that tell you how many games you get suspended for the amount taken, or you don't. You can't just arbitrarily decide one person, BECAUSE he's a poor black man, is to get preferential treatment.

Not if you want to maintain any integrity as an organization.

But I'm guessing the concepts of fairness and integrity are also beyond your grasp.

I didnt read much into on why herron and posey are suspended more, besides it has to do with receiving money for work that wasnt done. Did they do any work at all? If so, who is the NCAA to determine the value of the work they done?

I don't know how accurate the NCAA was with their information, although you'd have to at least hope they did enough investigating if they were going to hand down an additional 5 games. According to the numbers they cited, Posey would have been paid almost $49 an hour. If they did a thorough look into things and determined that was the hourly rate, I think its safe to assume he was overpaid by a lot.

FWIW according to Posey's lawyer he was paid in line with other non union employees were paid.
