With week 6 almost in the books, how are everyone's teams doing? Better than expected, worse, tough schedule, etc? Being an alumni of Nelsonville-York, I keep tabs on them and most southeast Ohio teams as well. The Buckeyes are 6-0, with notable wins over Bishop Ready, Newark Catholic, and D2 Logan. We're looking at a potential showdown with a (9-0) NY and a (9-0) D3 Athens team in week 10. Nelsonville-York is averaging 45 points a game, and giving up 6 a game.

Logan has by far been disappointing. I wasn't expecting much, but I wasn't expecting them to be quite this bad. I thought they'd at least be competitive. Our schedule has been brutal for us and that's what killed us. Losses to 3-3 Lancaster, 5-1 Pickerington North, 4-2 Reynoldsburg, and 6-0 Jackson & Nelsonville York. Finally got our first win last night against Gallia Academy. It's looking like a 4-6 or 3-7 season is on the horizon for us with 6-0 Jonathan Alder still to come.

Athens doesn't stand a chance.

With the Angle/Mays class, you guys would have done much, much, much better this season. Almost every school goes through growing pains talent wise, and the Chiefs are no exception. The first 5 games were ridiculous for you guys. Keep bringing the 2nd level points!!

I, like many others, expected so much more out of the Angle/Mays class even then. That was a shame. If the weather hadn't had been such a factor against Louisville in the playoffs, and then Angle didn't go down in the playoffs against Brookhaven. Grrrr! Lol But, great teams over come those things, and the Chiefs weren't able to. I just hope our growing pains don't last much longer!

As tough as the losses vs Dover and Coshocton were, Claymont has had the most successful season they've had in 5 years, and it may prove to be the most successful season in nearly a decade for the Mustangs. We won three games to start to start the season that we weren't supposed to (40-18 @ Harrison Central, 40-18 @ Indian Valleym, 55-25 at home vs Carrollton), and won in convincingly in those three contests. We start 4-0 for the first time in two years, and we're in the hunt (albeit kind of out of it) for the playoffs in arguably the toughest region pound for pound in Ohio.

And most exciting thing is that this team is so young. We only have two seniors starting on offense, and only 1 on defense. Our offensive line starts 4 sophomores and a junior. Our receiving corp is deep and talented and we have arguably the most productive wide receiver core in eastern ohio in DIII. We weren't supposed to do well this year, and no one outside of the twin cities and those kids in the locker room believed we were going to see .500 this year. But we have the potential to go 8-2 this year, which is our best record in I don't know how mant years.

Winning, especially winning young, breeds confidence and the drive to get better. And the next 2-3 years for these Mustangs are going to be VERY exciting.
