Trophies are for
last year. What counts about
trophies is only if they represent a commitment from coaching staff and community toward a program that yields a
winning team year after year after year(and in case you don't realize it,
winning doesn't mean just a high W:L ratio). That commitment is what Dover has in it's trophy case! Snide comments do nothing to diminish that accomplishment.
Dover is not a large community but we field a large number of boys on our football team every year. And they are all
our boys, developed through a responsible program that fosters the interest of the boys in the community to play football - they aren't garnered through open enrollment or people moving in to the district to play football for Dover.
Claymont's recent football past has been dismal at best - but that is only the past, it doesn't need to be the future. I was quite pleased to see the good start Claymont had this year though I think we all realized it wasn't meant to be a
trophy year for you yet. Your charge now should be to have what
we have so Claymont can have that same
trophy in their trophy case!
