I have read that you can put your fermenter in a big tub (like you would a keg) and keep it on ice. I have never tried it. I use an old fridge and a Johnson temperature controller. From everything I have read, temperature control is the most important factor in brewing.
I just put cold water in a tub, put the fermenter in the tub, and then wrapped it with a towel. Checked the temp this morning and it knocked it down into the desired range. I've got a little room down in my basement that is full of junk right now. I think I am going to clean it out and turn it in to a brew room. At least, a brew room for fermenting and storing my crap. It's not really big enough for me to actually do much in but would hold a fridge and/or freezer and a ton of supplies.

It would be ideal if it had enough room to actually do the boiling and all that. Some guys are able to do the entire process in a single room.

Sweet, a brew room is the way to go. Keep you eye on your temps and be patient and this will be the best beer you ever had. Keep us updated.

Here's a couple of my friend's labels he made.

This one was his Steam Beer. (second beer he made)

This was a beer made for his Dad when his Dad turned 70.

The idea is to cool your wort down as fast as possible then pitch the yeast and put the air lock on. You really need to maintain a constant temperature. A basement works great for Ale.

Just ordered two more beer kits. A pumpkin ale and raspberry wheat. I'll brew the pumpkin ale immediately so it's ready for Thanksgiving. The raspberry wheat will then be brewed and put back for the beginning of next summer.

Not yet. Here are the names I like the most so far:

Black Hand Brewery (named after Black Hand Gorge in the town I grew up in)
Tall Justin Brewery
Momma's Boy Brewery

It's going to be a while before I finally decide on something.

That's the same kit that I bought through groupon back in June.

I'm still partial to Tall Justin. (for personal reasons)

This was the first batch I brewed, turned out okay. Yesterday I just bottled a double IPA I brewed a few weeks ago, looking forward to trying it.

From the article:
And just for the record: Home-brewing is legal in Washington, D.C.
Is it illegal anywhere? It's not moonshine.

Home brewing is legal for personal consumption everywhere thanks to President Jimmy Carter's administration.

I gave you positive reps, because let's face it...turning things into potential ugly poli stuff is good for entertainment.

Just bottled my first batch. Ended up with 49 12oz bottles.

I've got plans to start two batches up next week, a batch of pumpkin ale and a batch of apfelwine.

^^^I'll give you this advice...I'd wait till you are much more experienced before you try to do a pumpkin ale. A little spice goes a long way...and individual tastes vary. It's a lot of work to brew a batch that you might not like....and quite disappointing. You can follow a recipe to a tee, and the stuff may still suck.
