Back on topic, recommend some good sites for supplies other than http://www.midwestsupplies.com. RedIs4Heart mentioned http://www.austinhomebrew.com.

We've got a great place just down the street from me called Listermann's. That is where I bought my brew kettle and thermometer. I'll probably go to them for most supplies, especially since I won't have to pay shipping and their prices aren't much higher than what I've found online. http://www.listermann.com/

Yeah you generally get upwards of 50 bottles of beer for anywhere from $25-45 depending on what you're making.

I think I might make a black/dark IPA next as those are some of my favorite beers.

BRF uses MrBeer kit. Takes at least two weeks and is a lot of work. Makes 8 quart bottles, which is a little bit shy of a case. For all the work involved, it's not that cheap. BUT the satisfaction of making it yourself has some value. Favorites are the Blonde Ale and Golden Lager. (LoL'ed at the comment "if it's bad I'll bring it all"!)

Another question. Do you guys that brew at home have a name for your "brewery" and do you do labels for each brew? If so, what's your name and where do you get your labels done? Also, post some pictures of bottles.

So home brewing is obviously legal, but is it for personal consumption only? Or is selling your product the only legal restriction?

You can't sell it without all of the necessary permits and stuff. You can share it with others, though.

I make my own labels. Got the kit from my wife a year ago for my birthday, she got it from Brewer's Best.

How to Brew is a good book. I'd also recommend Brewing Classic Styles, Designing Great Beers and Brew Like A Monk.

Best way I've found is in re-heating in a skillet on a stove. But I will eat it cold.

Got a question for you guys. I've got this batch of red ale in the primary fermenter (5 gallon bucket) and it is sitting on my basement floor. The temperature is ranging between 73-75º, though. Any suggestions for dropping the temp down?

F.N. Abus came about when was chatting with a friend of mine who is a home brewer. He was talking about someone we both know then said "Could you imagine screwing her. It would be like fucking a bus." So when I did my Mr Beer kit F.N. Abus seemed like a logical name since I wanted to call my Blue Berry Wheat BBW. The same guy designed the label. I love the Government Warning he came up with. I'll see if I can find pictures of some of his labels.

Justin,
I have read that you can put your fermenter in a big tub (like you would a keg) and keep it on ice. I have never tried it. I use an old fridge and a Johnson temperature controller. From everything I have read, temperature control is the most important factor in brewing.

Been brewing for 12 years. Moved to all grain a couple of years ago and built my own all-grain microbrewery with help from my friends. Never add ice to your wort, too easy to contaminate your beer, causing off flavors. It is very easy to make a wort chiller to cool down your brew before pitching. I order most of my ingredients from the Grape & Granary in Akron. They are very good and fast. http://www.grapeandgranary.com/.
