This game sucks ass. Homer is pitching well but, once again, the offense doesn't show up.

It's when he got up and threw with the wrong foot in front to 1st.....glad Phillips was not already stretched towards him.

BP makes a gold glove play on a terrible throw both in execution and technique by Votto. No way does Votto come close to making that play if that throw is coming to him covering first. Very quick recognition by BP of the bad throw, and then the very deft switch of feet on the bag to be able to get over to get the ball with his foot still on the back. Joey might have torn an ACL trying to make that play! Another lazy throw by Votto with his body going away from the target when he plenty of time to square up and move toward the target.

Excellent play by Cairo to go out 6' in front of 3rd to give the ump no opportunity to make a safe call. Last night's tag by Rolen of Carpenter on the throw by BP was also a classic example of well done in a fundamentally sound way.

Reds have no professional hitters outside of Cairo and Votto. When the chips are down and the ball has to be put in play, Stubbs, Gomes, Philips, Bruce, Rolen, Heisey, and Renteria can't be relied upon.

Jury is still out on Cozart, and Hanigan is a bit more consistent with putting the ball in play, but he doesn't get hits.

John Jay, Descalso, Theriot make our lineup look like they swing with blindfolds on. Hell, Chris Carpenter has a more confined stroke than Johnny Gomes.

Stubbs needs to lay one down here. Don't think this catcher, 3b, or Garcia will make the play.

I think Rolen is a " professional" hitter, but his skills aren't quick enough for anything past 92 mph....therefore guessing some.

A good 6th by Homer, but he was on the edge in the 5th with the ump giving him a gift 3-0 strike which he parlayed into an out on the first batter, then walked the next guy, then got the pick-off fortune.

Rolen was there for most of his career, but in Cincinnati he is being asked to hit in the middle of the order. He cannot produce at that level anymore. He is a 6/7 hitter at best. A .250 avg would be acceptable for a hitter in that spot, but the Reds need him to hit .290 with 20+ HR's and 80 RBI.

I agree with that, and his shoulder hurts him too. How did he do with those professional pitchers at the all-star game?

I don't think they will either. Philips flys out, then Bruce grounds out.

Everytime Rolen swings and misses his hand flies off of the bat..... There is a reason for that. Rolen rarely goes up there wailing and never goes up without a plan....to me that's a professional hitter....not necessary productive, but professional.
