All he had to do was forward the emails to compliance. That's it. They would have served probably 4 games at the beginning of last season and that would be it. People aren't hanging AJ Green for what he did. Let's just be realistic here, Tressel made his own decisions and he will pay the penalty for his own decisions.
Truth.

Nah, Tressel did this to himself. All this could have been avoided had Tressel also forwarded this to the compliance office at OSU instead of some "mentor".

He will have the support of the fan base as long as he wins. If this causes teh team to start losing recruits and agmes that is when he will lose his fanbase.

Just like Al Davis and the caoch for Kenton subscribe to.............Just.....Win......Baby.

Doesn't ANY of this strike you as odd? Tressel forwarded, but NOT to compliance, and he's been a straight shooter who has never hid anything from compliance? Then during the news conference, when asked if he forwarded the emails, Tressel said hm mmm, then Smith intervened and said he can't answer that?

I'm not a conspiracy theorist but as the days go by I'm thinking more and more that Tressel is taking the fall instead of the entire program.

Tressel fucked up. You can look for every possible way this isn't on him. But it is.

It does seem odd, but I don't really think it means anything either. If something comes out to prove Tressel is being set up as a fall guy, then fine, but I don't think that is the case.

Gene Smith is far too smart to force Tressel to be a fall guy. And yes, Tressel would have to be forced to.

a lot of buckeye nation would like to think this isnt the case. but really its not like this tressels first walk in the park. he has been in the game too long to make such a mistake as to not informing those above him. they dont want to believe this because the ncaa is liable to lay the smack down on OSU. but i dont see that happening . like the banks OSU is to big to fail. they just generate too much revenue.

I still want to know how OSU generates revenue directly to the NCAA, to the extent that they wouldn't punish them for violations.

I can't believe how many people think Jim Tressel would just "take the fall" to protect Gene Smith or some staff lawyer in the compliance office. You think the Vest loves OSU so much he is willing to ruin his legacy as a coach? You think he wants to live a lie for the rest of his life? I said it weeks ago and I'll say it again, if Gene Smith would have had a discussion with Tressel to "take the fall" a few weeks ago the press conference would have never happened. Tressel would and should have hired a lawyer to protect his interests and his attorney would have advised him against admitting any wrongdoing at the press conference.

There is no talking to you about this because you have your mind made up that there is absolutely no way JT could do this.

And how do you know he has never hid anything from compliance? Because he wears a sweater vest and writes books about being a winner? Maybe he's been hiding stuff his whole career and is just REALLY good at it.

I think the only thing more odd about this situation is that some people cannot cope with the fact that MAYBE Tressel just isn't as perfect as you had hoped he would be. Maybe he isn't a saint. Maybe is just more like a Senator than anybody really wanted him to be.

My thoughts exactly. I think as the NCAA digs, they're going to find out more than just a 'mentor' was made aware of it. If OSU did know about it, the NCAA is going to kick OSU so hard in the dick that they will be pissing out of their ass for years. Entirely different ball game when a coach lies compared to a university covering shit up.

That's what SMU, Bama and USC thought too.

The NCAA is almost in a position where they have to hammer OSU to save face.

No trolling. I said early on that I think there is no way Tressel would let anyone force him to take a fall for anyone. He has too much self-pride and respect, and he should. And I don't think OSU would put him in that position.

Count me as another one who thinks this idea that Jim Tressel is some kind of tragic hero and falling on the grenade for the OSU program is stupid. OSU fined him like a quarter of a million dollars. You don't take the fall for someone who would turn around and take that much money from you.
