I agree that they were not obligated to release that info at the time, if it comes out that they knew about it before they signed off with the NCAA then there is a bigger problem. The interesting thing that I believe is just starting to surface is the mentor that Tressel contacted and what other involvement he may have with Tressel and OSU. This may become bigger than anyone could imagine if the mentor is paying for Pryor and his mom to live the good life. They still have not mentioned if Tressel had the same concern for the other players safety to contact their mentors or family at the same time as he did for Pryor. No matter how huge of a OSU football fan you are, you have to admit that their is something they are trying to cover up.

Yea, he's doing w/e it is you're allowed to do in CBB. Testing the waters but still keeping eligibility open.

He didn't declare. Just getting advise from the undergraduate advisory committee. He wants to get an idea of where he might get drafted. I think most expect him to return, though the possibility is there that he won't.

gotcha'...the station I saw it on (Channel 11 in Toledo) said he "made himself available w/o hiring an agent", so I took that as declared...IMO he could use another year in college anyway

not necessarily..if YOU (a tsun fan) were to give Terrelle Pryor a ticket to a concert, that doesn't make YOU an OSU booster, does it? that's what drives me crazy--so many gray areas and not enough "definition"

This is certainly true. I'm sure there is more to what I said. But it's like the Ed Martin case. He actually wasn't a booster either. The NCAA deemed him one when he received free hotel from the university. Dumbasses!

RECRUITING DEFINITIONS YOU SHOULD KNOW:
Representative of Athletics Interest NCAA rules refer to boosters as “representatives of the institution’s athletic interests.” These representatives include anyone who has: • Participated in or has been a member of an organization promoting Illinois athletics pro grams (e.g., Rebounders, Courtsiders, Quarterback Club and other booster groups); • Made financial contributions to the athletic department or to an Illinois booster organiza tion;
• Arranged for or provided employment for enrolled student-athletes;
• Assisted or has been requested by Illinois staff to assist in the recruitment of prospec tive student-athletes;
• Assisted in providing benefits to enrolled stu dent-athletes or their families;
• Participated as a varsity athlete at the University of Illinois; or
• Been involved otherwise in promoting Illinois athletics (including all season ticket holders). Please be reminded that once an individual is identified as a “representative of the institution’s athletics interests,” the person retains their identity forever.
Seems pretty vague. Does the "mentor" have season tickets? :)

If you search the "ncaa definition of a booster" you'll get links to several universities which have that exact section in their guidelines.

Nothing wrong with that, but obviously these universities either cannot formulate policy on their own or want something official-sounding to hide behind when the shit hits the fan.

That would mean that if I am a OSU fan and a student athlete from another college comes to one of my businesses and wants a job for the summer, I would be considered a booster of his school ?

That's interesting. I'd like to know what the interpretation of this rule is, as applied to your scenario. Reading it at face value, I'd say that you are now a legally recognized booster of the other school. I hope you did a background check on what school he/she attends. Wouldn't look good to be a registered UM booster while living in Columbus and supporting the Buckeyes. I think your friends would have several juicy nicknames for you if that were to happen, lol.

Yes they would, I am more worried about being considered a registered booster for some place like San Francisco State University. We might need to add a few questions to the application, such as, What were the records of all the sports teams offered at your school and how many violations have they had in the last 5 yrs from the NCAA.

That info hasn't come out yet. The Dispatch submitted a request for Tressel's emails. But they either haven't received them yet, or haven't published the results of that inquisition yet.
