other than Seger/Jalen didnt think the rest of the kids played loose, a mark of a good team is when they can win and not play their best...........maybe I'm off it's hard to break a semi down in the Schott when you dont see many games there. Did Continental shut Dylan down, did he hurt his leg? seems all his shots were forced, didnt see Harvest Prep but would imagine we have to play better to beat them........

Harvest Prep is better than Continental, in my opinion, but I'm not sure how much better. Hiland played a pretty bad game, IMO, outside of a nice performance by Bonifant. The Hawks just didn't seem to get into any kind of rhythm. However, part of that was due to Continental hindering Hiland's tempo. Harvest Prep is decent, but the team they played - Houston - was one of the worst teams I've seen at state in the last 3-4 years. Someone in front of me said they looked like a JV team in size, age, and overall level of play. Tomorrow I will try to count how many different shoe color combinations I can find on Harvest Prep's team.

Not many on here or sholuld I say no one on here is giving Harvest Prep a chance. I predict they "Prep" will win by 4.

Looking at/talking to the Hiland guys after the game, you'd have thought they lost. Pretty unhappy with their performance. Looking to "redeem" themselves Saturday; hopefully that will play to our advantage. But HP is good, no doubt about that. Hard to judge how good from the Houston game--as mentioned, Houston didn't bring much to the table Friday night.
As Coach mentioned in the DR article, playing in the Schott does take some getting used to. (I might mention, watching a game there is a bit different as well. So far away from everything---everything so expansive---seems like your kind of removed from the action). Hopefully getting a game under their belts there will help in the second game. Sure helps to have an inside game option, as histoically Hiland has never shot well there. We don't have to rely on the perimeter game as much as in past years. Tho defensively was where hiland seemed to struggle a bit. And that's what the kids were upset about. We'll see if it translates to a win tomorrow. Should be a good game.

Isn't it great how the OHSAA gives the participating schools such good seats to see their teams

what a great fun weekend (except for the Buckeye loss) and ya the seats they give the fans are lousy and the ushers/ticket takers workers at the Schott are about as grouchy as sam hill............still state tournaments are great to go watch even if your team isnt in it.......congrats again Hiland Hawks..

I've never been through something like this...having a son play on the state championship team! What an awesome experience. So cool to experience it with dads and moms that we've sat beside watching our kids play basketball since biddy ball. watching the community's support to the kids, the coaches, the families... Hope that many more out there get the experience some time as well.

I have had a son play down there and a daughter that has played there in 4 games. It is a thrill - and for the reasons you noted. Still, I have no idea how it feels when you actually win the whole thing! But I sure enjoyed watching you and Mrs. Ricola celebrating. I guess I got a vicarious sense of it.

But even with the boys semi loss in 07 and the girls' heart-breaking losses in the finals in 09 and 10, I have wondered how many parents have had a son AND a daughter play in a final four. It can't be that big of a number. We are all blessed that being Hiland Hawks have given our kids those opportunities.

Yes, Hiland fans have been very fortunate. This year makes eight years in a row that the school has had a basketball team in the final four, either girls or boys. Also twelve years out of the last 15, with two of those years both teams appearing in the final four.

wow, I hadn't realized the numbers were that high. Even as a biased fan, one has to admit that's pretty impressive.

Yeah, me and an amish guy at work was talking about the Hawks today(he is neighbors with Cliff Sprang). Anyhow, we were wondering how much cap space the Hawks will have next year to make a move to help replace those seniors. Do they have any expiring contracts or any other means to make a deal happen? THIS POST IS A JOKE....we like making these jokes in front of sore Garaway fans!!

Well fellas it was indeed a great Basketball season, congrats to the hawks....but its now baseball season and from what i'm hearing there might be some more roaring in hawk country real soon.

I don't think we'll see anyone not home grown added to the roster, but on the other hand, last year at this time I had no idea that Seger would be at Hiland.

What I am excited about is seeing Seger play an entire season without having to "fit in", and also to see how Neil Gingerich is going to play in the post next year.

While I love my Pirate friends, it is so enjoyable to see them get their bloomers in a bunch over transfers and such. They have a serious case of the "yeah-buts" over there. Hiland won the IVC: "Yeah, but..." Hiland won the sectional, district, regional, and state: "Yeah, but..."

My response to their "yeah, buts" is that Hiland won the IVC and state.
