OSU is definitely one of the most magnified programs in college football.

When a program is in the top 10 on an annual basis, the microscope is on full fucking power, it goes with the territory. Why? Because the story of how they cheated to get there sells more shit than the feel good story does. They'll look for overpriced Barbie dolls sold at garage sales by players if they think they could get away with it.

priceless my man, priceless

This would be repeated violations by five players (one penalty, but they didn't just go to the store once) followed up by lying from the head coach.

I'm not saying the NCAA makes sense. I am saying they'd slam Ohio State with that. Because, after the other things in this decade (Clarett, Troy Smith's cell bill, the litany of secondary violations recruiting Seantrel Henderson, etc..) the NCAA could very well see it as Ohio State not exerting control over its football program. It wouldn't be the penalty that fit the crimes. But it's what they'd attach to it.

Now its on the front page of Yahoo! with a title "Coach knew of issues"

And you would expect competent journalism from Yahoo why, exactly?

Just because they got one right with Bush, doesn't mean they follow the basic rules of journalism when their story is very weak.

All five of those teams have been more scutinized than Ohio State

The whole Clarett thing was more scrutiny by itself than all those schools have seen -- combined -- in the last decade.

The NCAA literally lived at Ohio State for several months.

Please find me ANY evidence that any of those schools endured anything even remotely close to that kind of investigation. Not to mention the NY Times and ESPN spending months each looking into the allegations of wrong doing.

You just threw a bunch of shit out there without one shred of evidence to back it up -- much like the Yahoo story at this point.

I tend to read Yahoo columnists very often and found those two to both be very good reads (Robinson's a pure CFB guy, while Wetzel is a general sports columnist). I was surprised and disappointed to see their names attached to an allegation article that delivered no "proof" beyond some "a guy told Tressel about this before the school admitted knowledge" story with no name attached. This is a big allegation concerning the head coach of one of the top programs in the country...you just don't say "we heard this" without providing concrete evidence.

Let's compare this story of a single allegation -- with one unnamed source -- to the story Yahoo did regarding the allegations against Reggie Bush. In that story, they had documents and several NAMED sources.

If they're so damn confident of this, then where is the corroboration? Unless they're holding back for some unknown reason, what they've put out there is about as weak an example of "journalism" as you'll see. It looks like a way to get lots of web site hits (and revenue) and not much else.

Let us also look at the timing of this news shall we? Is it a coincidence that the men's BB team just finished the season on a high note spanking the shit out of Wisconsin on the national stage.....yesterday? Man, they sure ran the shit out of that clip when Wiscy rushed the court that was the Bucks first loss eh?

What? this un-named sourced story couldn't have run months ago? Please...give me a break

I'm not quite that big into the conspiracies against OSU.

I won't be worried about this until there is evidence presented that warrants me to be worried.

THINK ABOUT IT!!!

Who would the anonymous source be?

Who would be able to say they knew in April?

Why would the source be anonymous?.

Who would have anything to gain?

VERY simple, no one other than someone at the tattoo parlor/drug house who is looking for a reduction in sentence.

Even if true why would anyone believe a drug dealer?

Ask yourself the questions, come up with a more logical anonymous source.

I'm not either, but at this point it has as much credence as un-named sources. Funny, spring workouts started today for the football team too...hmmm

Here's what I want to know: if this person went to Tressel in April, why would they have gone to Yahoo! Sports and not contact the NCAA when this all broke in December? Clearly they contacted Yahoo!, Yahoo! definitely didn't find them.

Ah, it all makes sense now

The federal government is pleading down a guy in a tattoo parlor so the NCAA can stick it to Jim Tressel and Ohio State...

It certainly wouldn't be one of the players making a deal... what they did was only wrong to the NCAA, not something the Federal government would worry about.

So its not possible that in some sort of statement as part of a plea that tressels name pops up?

Even if it's not true I would expect Tressel to retire sooner rather than later. Ohio State runs a clean program, they just have some idiot athletes who get themselves into sticky situations. Unlike Oregon, USC and Auburn who break NCAA rules as a athletic department to gain advantages in recruiting and thus get one on the field. I don't think Tressel would want to put up with this bull shit for very long, especially if this is complete hearsay. I would expect Ohio State and Tressel to deny deny deny whether or not it is fact or fiction. Like the Cam Newton case, you can't get punished for what you can't prove.

In what scenario do you see the owner of the tattoo parlor just dialing up Jimmy T on the phone and saying "Hey man, a bunch of your athletes sold me shit, deal with it!"

What possible reason would he have had to contact Tressel or OSU about this?

I think I'll wait for more proof than the word of an anonymous source. Anyone remember that whole innocent until proven guilty thing? Sure, were not in a court of law, but I see no reason to believe this story until there's actual solid proof. Ohio State went through an NCAA investigation and was punished for the rules they broke. To me that's reason enough to stand behind Tressel and the rest of the organization until evidence suggesting otherwise comes out.

+1 This "evidence" should already be known to the NCAA as they already did their investigation and handed out the punishment.

I mentioned a couple things on another thread, but I know a couple people who have been involved in this whole tattoogate and have heard some rumblings. First off, I was told that it wasn't over after the suspensions. I don't think that meant Tressel was in trouble, but I've heard there were drugs and cars involved.

A name that no one has probably heard, that was involved was Jermil Martin. The RB who transferred to Ashland University, but was only on campus for about a week. Word is that he was as involved, if not more so, than all the others. Maybe Yahoo spoke to someone like him and offered him $5,000 or whatever to tell them the details. If anyone would know whether or not Tressel was aware, you would imagine it would be someone that was involved first hand.
