I think I read where there were emails that weren't released. I'm not sure if that explains the delay or not, but it's possible.

Additionally, the last email said the federal investigation is resolved. Seems to me it would be easy to assume that something should happen soon after that, but obviously nothing did. Wouldn't the lack of response from that investigation make Tressel believe that the information was incorrect? Again, I don't know if that's the case but it's entirely plausible, but too many people aren't willing to accept the possibilities of any alternatives that come to their mind in hindsight.

Because nothing that has been reported as far as Tressel's admissions are concerned indicates that Tressel has ever tried to say that he didn't take the emails seriously. Quite the contrary. Since he came clean, so to speak, the story has always been that he took them very seriously and understood there would eventually be consequences. Whether people buy his "didn't know who to contact" or confidentiality excuses or not, nobody entertains the thought that he just forgot about them because what is on the record from Tressel refutes that.

I hope that if I ever decide to cheat on my wife and get caught that I can count on the Ohio State fans to help me out, you guys can really dream up some really good excuses and have a great imagination to try and convince people that even when you are caught red handed there is a good reason for it. I like the argument, it is after the fact so there would be nothing to gain if you punish someone that feels bad and has learned from his mistake. Someone should start their own business with the slogan "You got caught cheating, let us explain how you did it to protect your wife from the dangers of pregnancy". Tressel could be a paid spokesman.

All you have to do is lie, like like Tressel did and you have already done in the past.

Here's something to consider: what are the chances Ohio State could get hit as a repeat offender? The NCAA tends to hit them harder than those who don't fall in that category.

I don't think it comes to this, but what if the NCAA is especially hungry this time? If the asshats who hand out penalties want to, they can find precedent to go with what Ohio State has already done and they can find a precedent to really nail them,

There are people who see similarities in what Todd McNair did and what Tressel did.

They could say "We trust Ohio State to keep it clean from this point on." and do nothing else.
They could also say "We're sick of fucking coming here every few years. We thought we had this shit ironed out in fucking December. What the hell Jim? What else haven't you told us? Just for that, you get your balls in a vise."

I think the fascinating part of this entire saga is no one knows for certain what the NCAA is going to do. They could pass on nothing else or they could really stick it to Ohio State. One of my coworkers wondered what would happen if they banned Tressel from recruiting for two full years. I'm not sure even these dipshits would do that. But, we also never thought they'd let Cam Newton skate, either.
