I'm sorry, but that blog proves nothing. Or course he'll get mentioned because he plays for the #1 team in the country, but he is just far too one dimensional for the NBA.

Maybe, Maybe not. His point about Jason Kapano is spot on though. The point remains he is on some NBA teams radar. Shooters are always needed in the NBA, ask the Miami Heat.

Yea, but even guys labeled as "shooters" cannot be completely one dimensional. Kapono is 6'8" and averaged 16-18 for four straight years in college.

Everyone wants to try to find a comparable NBA player as Diebler, and I just can't think of one. Kyle Korver is the closest I can think of, but even he was able to take the ball to the rim in college and is a more physical player.

When I suggested the Carolina OSU matchup, the one that sticks out most to me is Aaron Craft on anyone.
As a Duke fan I have seen my fair share of white point guards. We wrote the book on white point guards in the NCAA.
Most college teams are guard oriented, and as a result the Eric Maynor types dominate the landscape.

When it comes down to the nitty gritty do you honestly believe Aaron Craft can defend a top flight college point guard?
My belief is that teams in late game will spread the floor and attack him one on one. If this happens Craft will be in trouble because his ability to stay with defenders (without drawing significant lower body contact) is limited. I see Maynor hitting 7 foot runners over Paulus in my night mares. I would be worried as a buckeye fan if this scenario played out.

That being said, this can be easily fixed by letting Lighty guard the other point guard and rotating Craft or Diebler off the floor.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

Craft is white by his skin color only. He is as athletic of a PG with his lateral quickness and strength as any PG there is in college basketball.

Yes, Craft is as good of an on ball defender as there is in the NCAA, so yes, I would take him.

Light will be forced to guard Henson or a big. They won't be able to move him off of him. Diebler on the ball? You are crazy.

My only worry would be some dumbass referee in the tournament calling a tight game and calling some contact out top on Craft and getting him in foul trouble.

Just.....WOW!! That is one of the most uninformed statements I've seen on this site. Nobody has been able to consistently get past Craft.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with this statement. I HIGHLY doubt teams are going to develop a game plan to expose one of the best on the ball defenders in the country.

I believe he had 27 points at Wisconsin. He was unconscious that afternoon. Just Sunday Taylor was shut down, mainly because OSU did a better job of defending the high ball screen. Craft has done a great job on some very good guards this year:
Taylor @ OSU: 8 points on 2-9 shooting
Battle @ PSU: 18 points on 7-14 shooting
McCamey @ OSU: 15 points on 5-10 shooting
Lucas @ OSU: 14 points on 7-15 shooting
Morris @ OSU: 12 points on 6-13 shooting
McCamey @ ILL: 5 points on 2-11 shooting

Taylor had a great game @ Wisky, Morris had a nice game @ Michigan and Florida's mini-backcourt had a nice scoring game, but Florida turned the ball over 18 times in that contest. Also, all those guards are black. I think craft will be OK once OSU gets to the NCAA tournament and has to face all these uberathletic 1's that are so much better than what he has faced during B1G play.

He had 27, and I'm not sure he got any of those by driving past Craft, pretty much everything came off of the high ball screen. I'll take Craft man up on any PG in the country.

It is easy to tell you either haven't watched OSU play much this season or you know nothing about basketball.

Craft is a very good defender, no doubt. But even the best defensive players sometimes cannot stop the best offensive players. There are a lot of very good defenders in the NBA, but the general perception of the NBA is that there is no defense played, when in reality its just a case of great offense. So yes, while Craft is a very good defender, he would not be able to stay man to man on PGs like Kemba Walker and Jimmer the whole game without allowing their normal points.

I would like to see Craft against Jimmer.Jimmer is more clever than quick, so Craft would have to study some film. Kemba's quickness makes it possible for him to get a shoot almost anytime he wants one. But, he is a volume shooter and tends to take bad shot as well. That is the primary reason his shooting % has dropped over the course of the season.

Craft is a very good on ball defender. I don't know if he is the best in the country, but he is in the conversation. That does not mean he can shut people down. It does mean he can make them work for their shots and hope that they tire as the game goes on.

The fact that he is "in the conversation" as a Freshman says enough about his ability.

I think Craft is good, don't get me wrong. But the NCAA tournament is full of great scorers. If Kansas State were playing OSU in the sweet 16 do you really believe Jacob Pullen would be shut down by Aaron Craft? Kemba Walker? I would even venture that Malcolm Delaney would have a great night (granted VT would still lose by 20+).

Personally, I don't believe he can. I also believe when he gets out of the Big Ten players who are more active with the dribble will get him into foul trouble because of his lack in lateral quickness.

I have watched lots of Ohio State this year, but more importantly I have watched more than just Ohio State. There are innumerable guards that would make life for him hell. The caveat must be that a team must have bodies down low that can keep secondary defenders honest. Aaron Craft will not be able to limit good point guards ability to create shots for himself. He is not quick enough. I am confident this fact will come to light in the sweet sixteen or earlier.

I don't know the answer, but I do have a question who was the last national champion who played exclusively with a white point guard? (Jerry McNamara was a SG, and Jon Scheyer, well if you think he is a true PG well we can agree to disagree).

No...its not opposite.

You can only do so much to stop someone from scoring, if the opponent is a great offensive player hes gonna hit tough contested jump shots. You cant do shit about it.

Thats why you sometimes see someone play great defense the entire possession, cut the guy off from driving to the hoop and force him to pull up with a hand in his face....swish. Then the defender kinda shrugs, bc you cant stop that
