House passed the Patriot Act extension today. 275-144.

210 Republicans and 65 Democrats voted for it.

117 Democrats and 27 Republicans voted against it.

11 Democrats and 3 Republicans abstained.

Gross.

Now on to the Senate where it'll take a miracle for it to not pass. Damn it.

If there are alot, or even enough, moderate dems in the senate it won't pass.

Please just let it die.

Another thing I'm wondering, not necessarily from you or from you only, but why isn't there the outrage that we see from conservatives with everything the Democrats do that they see as expanding the federal government with this bill? Same stuff, except the Republicans support it.

Pants that was my little bit of sarcasm and distaste for the liberal dems shining through. I don't believe any of them have any common sense, so my statement was showing my hopefulness that there might be enough moderate dems (maybe not conservatives, but might have 3 brain cells left) somewhere in the senate to knock this down.

Not an attempt to justify it, but I imagine it goes toward the usual "government expansion" being something that the average Joe can see and feel in his everyday life, (i.e. being forced to purchase health insurance) whereas the PA is largely invisible and has no real effect on Joe's day to day life.

That's because they aren't the ones giving up the freedoms. If members of Congress and everyone else in the federal government had to be treated like the common American, as a potential terrorist, then you might see some changes.
