Having my weekly tasting tonight, bringing a Victory Otto I've been holding onto since 2011. Very curious how it holds up with 18 months on it. Never tried to age a smoke beer before.

3 including me. Everyone once in a while a 4th will join. We try and meet every week, rotating house but usually ends up about 3 times a month.

We usually split between 3 or 4, I think 3-4 oz is enough to get an idea.

Tomorrow for my 30th b-day (holy fuck that feels weird), my wife is setting up a beer tasting for everyone. Pretty awesome considering she doesn't really care for beer. Should be interesting because there's only a few other people who enjoy craft beer half as much as I do, and most just drink bud light. So far I've been giving a lot of input and so far have custom wine glasses and the following beers to try (lots of Belgians), with maybe 10 or so more to add...

Duvel
Chimay Blue

Ommegang Three Philosophers
Ommegang Hennepin
Ommegang Rare VOS
Budweiser Black Crown
Aecht Gehlenferla Rauchbier

Chimay makes a three pack with red, white & blue with a goblet. I saw it at World Market, not sure if Anderson's has it or not. That might be good for a tasting.

I bought one a while ago, was a good deal and I love the glass. I would have to buy at least 3 of those though for the number of people at the tasting for everyone to get a decent amount of each.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/01/budweiser-corona-deal_n_2599341.html

"“We must slow the volume trend of High End Segment and cannot let the industry transform,” AB InBev said in internal strategy documents obtained by the Justice Department, referring to the threat posed by imports and craft beers."

That pretty much says it all right there.... cannot let the industry transform.

One of my Thursday beers (a quality beer you drink without needing an occasion). Solid quad. Enjoy.

Also, happy early birthday!

Sorry as I've never been there.

Having the Cockeyed Cooper tonight from Uinta. This brewery has my attention peaked as this was the second nice beer I had from them. Nice wood on the nose as it's bourbon barreled. Nice Barley Wine across the palate and great finish. Doesn't fell like a 11%. Very drinkable. There might be a little vanilla/bourbon on the nose, but you don't feel it on the palate. Would Recommend.

Here's a pic at the end of our tasting last night. Yes, those are two 40s near the bottom.

Here was our entire lineup, nothing too amazing but had a few good ones and a few duds as well...

Duvel
Ommegang Rare VOS
Ommegang Hennepin
Ommegang Three Philoshophers
Bud Black Crown
Yuengling Lager
Batch 19
Wienstaphaner Hefeweissbier
Goose Island Fluer
Chimay Red
Chimay Blue
Shadow Wild Black
New Belgium Fat Tire
Sierra Nevada Tumbler
Smuttynose Old Dog Brown Ale
Shorts Good Humans Brown Ale
Sierra Nevada Bigfoot
Stone Arrogant Bastard
Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald
Flying Dog Pearl Necklace
Founders Imperial Stout
Stone Pale Ale
Rogue Juniper Pale Ale
Rivertown Hop Bomber
Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier
King Cobra
Magnum

Some notes...
- The 40s were got as a joke for the most part, but the King Cobra wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. I 'could' drink one, on the other hand the Magnum smelled and tasted fucking awful.

- If I remember correctly, I poured out 3 beers: Rivertown Hop Bomber, Wild Black, and Fat Tire.

- The big surprise for me were the brown ales. One of my least favorite styles, but all 3 of these were awesome.

- It's been a long time since I had Chimay Red and it was so much better than I remembered. I wish I bought it more ofter instead of always getting Blue.

And the best part is there is a shit ton left over of which all I got to keep.
