I saw that the Alchemy Hour DIPA is replacing the Doppelrock. I enjoyed the Doppelrock but I'm sure I will like the new brew better.

I was told that Doppelrock kind of flopped. Hopefully, this is tasty. I bet it will be.

I didn't go to the Cincy beer fest this year. I'll see if I can find their stuff at The Jungle next time I'm there.

Today, I walked on the wild side and ordered a 22oz draught Batch 19 at BW3's.

Knowing it is made by Coors, I was shocked that it was no watery, and had a lively carbonation.

It was actually better than meh.

At. 4.50 for a 22oz. I would say this is a solid choice for a place like bdub's.

Think of a 50/50 mix of arrogant bastard and miller light.:p

Sierra Nevada Torpedo for me this weekend. Really enjoyed it. Nice Citrus/pine notes.

BIGGGG fan of Knee Deep. Have yet to have a beer that's not phenomenal from them. Hop Shortage and McCarthy's Bane are other favorites of mine from them.

Coffee Stout is Boss!!! MOAR!!!

Had the GL Alchemy Hour tonight. Pretty impressed. Not as good as the LEM, but I do like it very much.

EDIT: by saying I do like it very much I mean I finished off the 4 pack in one night.

I still have a couple left in the fridge, might have to change that tonight. I agree LEM is a bit better, but GL sure is stepping up their IPA game.

I need to re-try LEM. Had it last year and was super sweet I thought with a black licorice like taste which I didn't find that appealing.

Yeah it is pretty sweet (so is Alchemy Hour, although it has a strong honey presence which reminds me of hopslam). I like the occasional hop bomb, but I'm starting to appreciate IPAs more that don't taste like they just dumped a shit ton of hops in and called it a day.

LOL I've been feeling that way as well for awhile. I get a chuckle out of the names that revolve around letting you know that it's super-extra-high-uber-level hoppy. I'm waiting for an IPA called "Hops Out The Ass." We'll call it HOTA, for short.

Drinking Alchemy Hour now. I actually like it MORE than Lake Erie Monster. It doesn't have that bite that LEM has, and even Hopslam. I don't know if its the alcohol heat from those two beers that I don't like, but I really like this Alchemy Hour.

I'd probably put it 4th as far as Ohio IPAs go, with White Rajah, Columbus, and Head Hunter ahead of it. But that's pretty good company to be in.

Also, just got back from Michigan yesterday. Saturday we hit up Ann Arbor where we had lunch and a flight of beers at Jolly Pumpkin. My favorite there was their Pumpkin Hop beer, which is a one-off that they don't bottle but should. Makes me wonder why more breweries don't make a Pumpkin IPA in the fall instead of these super pumpkiny beers like Pum-King which are a bit over the top for me.

Next we hit up Arbor Brewing which makes a GREAT IPA called Buzzsaw, anyone visiting Michigan should check it out. Finally we went to Ashley's which is a pretty famous bar in Ann Arbor that just had a Bell's tap takeover for their 30th anniversary about 2 weeks ago. There were still some Bell's beers on tap from the takeover, and I got to try This One Goes to 11 (an imperial red...very good) and a special Ashley's 30th anniversary ale which was forgettable.

Monday we went to Kuhnhenn Brewing in Warren, MI. Had two flights there.....highlighted by their award-winning DRIPA (double rice IPA). I didn't know what to expect from a rice IPA, but to be honest it tasted like Columbus IPA. The owner's father, an older gentleman, started talking to us because we were the only people in there. He gave us a free taste of their Blueberry and Raspberry Eisbocks. I didn't know it at the time, but apparently the beer trade boards on Beer Advocate are going nuts over these Eisbocks. I can totally understand why. The Raspberry was 12.5 ABV and the Blueberry was 15.5 ABV. They both tasted like smooth fruit beer without even a hint of alcohol. I don't like fruit beers at all but those were fantastic.

We also hit up a place called Dragonmead Brewing which was a weird medieval themed brewery with a lot of very forgettable beers.

Jolly Pumpkin does some amazing shit, I'd love to try this one. One of these days I'll head up to the brewery and try some beers there.

If you enjoyed this years, then you'd really shit over it in years past. Just not as great this year as compared to years past. Still good none the less.

It's another all IPA night in the Curly household. It's what we have in the fridge.
