Who was the last Republican mayor of Chicago?

I'm not 100% sure, but i think William Hale Thompson ("Big Bill") was a Republican, and he is considered, arguably, the most corrupt mayor in US history. Served a couple terms, i think. Al Capone loved him. He was eventually defeated by Anton Cernak, the dude who was assassinated while shaking hands with FDR.

But, doesn't matter, fact remains that any current Chicago problems can be probably be rightly laid at the feet of democrat leadership.

Why is this such a big deal on an Ohio-based website? Are you all afraid that the Chicago goons will take over the Buckeye State somehow?

I would think you have bigger fish to fry, as the protests in the Statehouse are just beginning. Hey, any word on whether they've unlocked the doors yet?

I don't envy you visiting Chicago, and not because of Rahm. The gridlock in that city is ridiculous. I try to limit my visits to stopovers at O'Hare.

People will been seen with their fists in the air (and their heads in the sand) on the news coverage just like in Wisconsin. I'm sure some viewers will recognize some of the participants and make a well-placed phone call.

I love Chicago ... great city and once you know the Lines it is eazy.... to get around. Note: I fly into Midway (Southwestern cheap and eazy)

If I were to see one of my child's teachers shaking their fist at a rally instead of being in the classroom, I would try like hell to get him/her fired.

Huh...and here I thought even teachers could do what they want on a personal day? (not a sick day...but teachers DO get 3 personal days (read: vacation days) to do what they want during their cushy, 9 month schedule).

Not a fan, at all. BUT, as far as him getting back on the ballot (I was in Chicago the day they voted, which is the only reason I know anything about this), there was precedent for this. Most people saw it as the right thing to do, whether it was legal or not. Now that opens up a big can of worms, however, like I said, there was precedent. I agree that it was the right thing to do, he wasn't in Chicago because he was in DC. It's not like he moved to San Diego and then decided he wanted to run for Mayor of Chicago. He left to do his job. Like I said, I'm not a fan, but he was far and away the best candidate. You need a big shot to be the Mayor of Chicago, did you see the jokers that were running against him? I would have voted for him too, to be honest. And I can't stand the guy.

I called this back on Post #16. OJ could've won on the democratic ticket in Chicago.

Wow! It sounds as if you don't have a dog in this hunt. If your district has a contract with no personal days, I'm sure that the rest of the contract is sweet as well, like lower pay and major contributions for health care and pensions.
