People's names and their impact on their success/failure was one of my favorite topics discussed in Freakonomics.

So named after a priest who falls in love with a girl he raised from youth played by a gay man. Awesome!

I know a white guy with that name - I think it's because his family is Catholic and it's a papal name

Re the - (dash) variations, I remember reading about that possibility in Snopes last year: http://www.snopes.com/racial/language/le-a.asp

Dumbest name given by celebrities to their children, IMO? Rumer, daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. Could have been worse, they might have named her Hepzibah.

Many, many years ago, I went to school with a girl named Bologna. I have no idea what her parents were thinking when they came up with that.

Had a girl in my class whose last name was Small. Her dads name was Harry Richard Small. He actually went by his middle name and abreviated it Dick. When he filled out forms, it was Small Harry Dick, or Small Dick.
