Screenrant gave a pretty good break down of the Bane character and where Nolan may go with it. . . no mention of Catwoman, except for the fact that most fans anticipated her inclusion in the film.

Nolan and Bale have been adamant that this will be the last of the Batman movies done by them. However, I'm sure they are well aware of the selling potential of Batman, and the certainty that the studio will continue the series after they have both left. Considering Bane actually kills Batman in the comics by snapping his spine, I'm guessing Nolan and Bale are planning on leaving this trilogy with a bang. . . .probably killing Batman. That's just my guess, but it seems natural considering each of the Batman movies thus far have had the recurring theme of Bruce Wayne stating to Rachel Dawes that he doesn't plan on being Batman forever. It also makes sense because it would allow the studio to bring in a new Batman and keep the same storyline without Nolan and Bale.

I'm confident that the premise for the two characters can be made just as dark, gritty, and captivating as the first two movies.

Why not? That's what the comics' Bane looks like.

I'll grant you the fact that no one was expecting the performance that Ledger gave, but many [including a few on here] actually thought Ledger was a solid cast for 'The Joker.' I've really yet to read anyone being excited about these two castings.

Although to be fair, I'm not sure why Catwoman being in this film is any surprise at all considering 2 facts:

(1) She's a major character in the comics, and

(2) The exchange in The Dark Knight,
Bruce Wayne: How will it hold up against dogs?
Lucius Fox: We talking Rottweilers of Chihuahuas? Should do fine against cats.

It is a surprise (to me at least) that such a campy character would be in a Nolan film. Catwoman is a fine character in the comics universe, and in Burton's Batman world which was more gothic. Nolan's universe is dark and gritty, not a world where you expect to see an actress from The Princess Diaries.

FWIW, I don't consider Nolan's films to be comic book films, they are just very, very good films that just happened to be based on a comic narrative.

I agree with the link above, the writers are going to have to completely re-write both characters from their comic book persona - or else we're looking at Spiderman 3 redux.

I'm just gonna hope that the new guy lives more than two months after the movie is released. RIP, Jeep Swenson.

Echoing Manhattan Buckeye, I don't view Nolan's films as comic book films, but instead just good movies based on the same premise as the comic books. I am not, nor was I ever an avid comic book fan. But, I am a fan of good movies, and the Batman films directed by Joel Schumacher stunk. To quote from the Screen Rant article I posted:
As he has demonstrated with his previous Batman films, Christopher Nolan likes to keep things firmly based in reality. That’s one of the things that has made his Batman movies so good (for some). Is it realistic that a billionaire playboy goes out at night to fight crime as a masked vigilante? Of course not. But in Nolan’s movies, you believe that it’s at least possible, which makes the story and characters that much more engaging.

I guess I still don't understand what everyone's hang up is on the introduction of Catwoman and Bane. It's not like Ledger was everyone's first choice for Joker, his last movie was Brokeback Mountain, for crying out loud! Who would've expected a gay cowboy, or a lame knight that has Queen playing during a jousting scene to produce as jmog wrote, "The Joker created by Nolan and Ledger might be the best acting/role performance of any movie ever created." No way, no how.

I think incorporating Catwoman would be easier than a Joker or Scarecrow. At least Catwoman has another persona...Joker didn't. No one would've expected Ra's Al Ghoul to be a character in the first one either...Nolan did it. I won't be caught up on Nolan's third Batman at all, I am looking forward to it. So far, Nolan's last four movies haven't failed -- Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, or Inception (which I haven't seen but heard good things)...I don't anticipate that he'd fail on this one.

I will echo Manhattan Buckeye though...not necessarily comic book films, just very, very good films based on comic book characters/narrative. I wouldn't mind to see him do more comic book character movies.

Bane did not kill batman, at least in that series. I haven't read comics in awhile but I own the whole knighfall set. He broke his back, Bruce got someone else to be batman who took Bane down but then went over the edge and after recovering, Bruce took down his replacement and reclaimed his mantle--so I doubt we'll see Batman die in this.

Also I wouldn't be shocked to see them use Ra's daughter Talia and hint that he's still alive after using a lazarus pit.

Id like to see Williams in that role. He has the ability to play a great villian. He, Kevin Spacey, Michael Emerson and a select few others seem to have that creepy guy look to them.

Well he's worked with Nolan before with Insomnia but he pretty forgettable in his role, and Insomnia was IMO Nolan's worst film (although still pretty good).

He has done well in a couple of serious roles. I thought he was great in 1 Hr photo....I think that is what it was called.

It's slated for 2012 so it'll be a summer blockbuster next year. The Dark Knight was released end of may/early June 2008, and I'm betting that will be the approximate time frame for this one as well.

Not sure how I feel about this, but I do generally like Robin Williams.

Ledger was great don't get me wrong, but he gets more credit since he is deceased.
