Not a bad thing. Creativity can be good, rehashing cheesy villains can be bad. Nolan is talented enough to direct a film with a compelling story, relying on already-done storylines that may work in comics isn't his thing. No Penguin, no Riddler, and for God's sake no Catwoman.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with new villains. However I don't think Riddler or Penguin would be as cheesy if done by Nolan's crew.

I cant believe the Riddler wont make an appearance, I have a feeling he will be a bad guy in th e3rd dark knight installment, Movies seem to be made in 3's these days. Kinda like 2 face in this past one.....keep the story moving.

Honestly The Dark Knight may be the best Batman movie ever, this coming from a guy who doesnt follow the comic book oe anything! just a casual fan.

This is the 3rd movie. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were the first two.

This is going to be a very good movie. I love the "new" villains. Its the biggest reason the Dark Knight was so looked forward too, because Begins was so awesome with "new" villains. Joker was the only old villain I wanted to see and he was awesome. There are a TON of phenomenal actors out there that can play these roles. I think it adds a lot to the movies when you have guys who arent as famous playing roles.

Just reading this thread makes me want to watch the Dark Knight movie. I like the new villain idea, as I agree the more known ones have been worn out. Before the last movie came out my friend gave me the previous movies because I hadn't seen them and I've been hooked ever since. The Dark Knight was maybe the best movie I've ever seen(Be is as it may that I am not a movie buff, but still) I really hope they make another masterpiece.

Horrible news:

http://www.imdb.com/news/ni7011928/

I still trust Nolan, Hardy was fine in Inception but Bane? And Hathaway as Catwoman? Barf.

I trust that Nolan's Bane won't look like this:

I'm confident that the premise for the two characters can be made just as dark, gritty, and captivating as the first two movies.

Hmmm. I am not a fan of having Catwoman in the movie AT ALL but I do love Anne Hathaway so I am kinda torn on this. I do trust Christopher Nolan so I will remain optimistic for now.

What's wrong with the Bane from Batman and Robin?

It's not THAT far off of the comic book Bane...

I also don't understand why having Catwoman would be bad? I think it's going to be better than a Penguin, especially with the way that Nolan has made the first two movies. He has made them as more "realistic" than the old Batman movies (90s ones) were. We could see how Ra's al Ghul, The Scarecrow, The Joker, and Two-Face could all possibly happen. It'd be harder to get a Penguin to be "realistic" without doing what they did with Danny DeVito, in my opinion.

I don't find Catwoman a compelling character enough to have her be a villain/semi-villain/anti-hero when her attractiveness overshadows any threatening aspect whatsoever. Pfeiffer did well in Batman Returns, but Burton's films were much different than Nolan's, Nolan's are far more realistic.

I'm not sure anyone could outdo Ledger, his character was so full of evil and ugliness. But what's Hathaway going to do, give teenagers erections? Nolan and others are going to have to write a complete homerun script to get these "villains" anywhere close to the performances of Ledger/Eckhart/Neeson/Murphy.

We are not even sure if he will even use the Catwoman character much, if he does at all. He may just focus on Selina Kyle the person instead of her alter ego.

I read somewhere that it might be more like the comic book Catwoman instead of the Batman Returns movie. The one in the comic book was a rough street girl instead of a dorky secretary brought back to life by some stray cats.

Id guess she will be Catwoman in reference more than anything. I think we see her more as a "person" interacting with Bruce Wayne and NOT Catwoman interacting with Batman. At least for the majority of the movie.

As for Bane, he is being played by a fantastic actor and being directed by a great director. No need to worry about how that will turn out. I have pretty much no doubts.

Along those same lines...who ever though Ledger could turn in the performance he did??? I think we had seen his greatness in other roles, but not to that extent. Im sure Nolan knows what he is doing and what he is looking for in an actress. Maybe Hathaway has been typecast thus far in her career and is capable of delivering a breakout performance. I wouldnt worry about it being a great movie, but it wont be as good as TDK no matter who was playing what role.

Another thing Im looking at is the fact Nolan didnt say Hathaway will play Catwoman. She is ONLY listed as Selina Kyle. Im thinking more and more that she will just be Kyle and not Catwoman.

As for Bane...didnt he try to ruin Gothem with Ra's al Ghul? The whole plot of Nolans Batmans can completely come full circle if Bane tries to finish what Ra's started (in Comics they were together, but obviosuly Ra's al Ghul is dead, so it would be finishing what he started) at the VERY beginning of Batman Begins. Just something to ponder.

But won't she in turn be Catwoman in the movie after this one? I mean I doubt Nolan will just bring Selina Kyle in for a movie and not incorporate Catwoman at some point. It may turn out fine but I am going to be highly skeptical until I see how it unfolds.

Her earliest form was a thief without a costume who called herself the cat. I think she may appear towards the end, but not before that. Jmo.

Nolan could likely be done with the Batman movies after this one as could Bale, etc. Perhaps he's setting it up so that the execs have the option of a Hathaway Catwoman film?

After what he did with the Joker character and Harvey Twoface, I am willing to give Nolan the benefit of the doubt on virtually anything. He does excellent work.

I agree with this, I will remain optimistic until I see the movie.

The Joker created by Nolan and Ledger might be the best acting/role performance of any movie ever created.
