Guess we will see about that. Sheridan has given up 3 touchdowns with their varsity D this season. TV scored one after starting with a short field from the second half kickoff being moved back because of a Delay penalty. Cville scored twice when the game was in hand, once on a fumbled 4th down play where they were stacked up on the four yard line and fumbled in to the endzone, the other on a nice play call. This was sheridan's schedule:
Lakewood 47-0 (also the halftime score)
West M 49-13 (49-0 at half)
John Glenn 45-0
Maysville 49-0 (35-0 at half)
Cambridge 42-6 (IMO, the only truely poor performance of the season.)
Morgan 62-7 (49-0 mid second qtr)
Philo 56-6 (49-0 at half)
Tri Valley 42-14 (threw three picks, one returned for score)
Crooksville 45-20 (played a little flat but led big all night)
New Lex 49-7 (43-0 mid 2nd qtr and we fumbled on the 2 and ran the clock out on the 20 to end half)

Our starters have seen limited action past the second qtr (if that much) this season. We have been able to build some depth because of it though. We have an outstanding qb and are solid around the board. This is a very good team. If you are going to move the ball on them it will be through the air, not on the ground. Good kicking/punting with poor punt return unit. We put the football on the turf unforced sometimes. You will be in for a dog fight win or lose. This team is very good. I wouldn't compare to Granville, they couldn't play this team within f6 td's most seasons. Culver has been the man in charge for 28 seasons now, they havent had a losing season since 1989. State runners up in 1987 and have made numerous playoff berths. AP state champs in 08' losing to Eastmoor academy in the 2nd round. Have beat the likes of Stueby (04') Dover (03') when both were ranked number one. Have also defeated Canfield, Indian Creek, Indian Hill (Cinci), Louisville, etc in the playoffs. Gave poland its best game of the year when they won the title back in 99'. This is a program with a ton of tradition that is very, very well coached and will hit you all night long. If they contain toothman they will win. If not bball will start early this season.

You won't be sure if the cows are off or not the way they will push you around!

I wouldn't plan on having you starters benched by the second quarter, should be in for a good game.

Now, i'm obviously not going to claim to know more about the Generals than you, but your D looks heavy on pass rush, with a weaker secondary. Which sounds opportune for the spread O of the Quakers, once combined with Toothman's ability to scramble.

To be honest, I don't know how many times our D could withstand your ground assault, but I like our chances if we control the ball, avoid turnovers. And most importantly, eliminate penalties, an issue that plagues The Quakers even when they win.

As a Dover fan, I figured the same about Sheridan's pass D in '03. And for the most part, Dover was able to move the ball between the 30's that night, but once they got inside the 30 we struggled, and Sheridan picked off a Dover QB that had thrown less than a handful all season about 4 times that night. If Sheridan fans are saying this is a good team, then Salem will need to play a near perfect game to win Saturday night in Thornville, just as Dover will need to win at Big Red.

No doubt; we know we had better bring our A-game. If we play like we did in week 9, we will have big problems; if we play like we played in week 10, we could make it a good game.

Woodball, I'm sure #8 from Sheridan still gives Coach Ifft nighmares, picked Lisowski (sp) 3 times that night and took one to the house.

Yeah i got my tickets the other day actually. Helps to have a man on the inside being able to buy them 1st. And i mean that litterally # 1,2,3 on the roll.
My son and I are ready to put on the long-johns and head to the field early Sat evening. Hoping for a good hard hitting clean game from both teams.

IMO, we (sheridan) didn't get the best possible draw. I think that Salem is a top four team in this region. This game could go either way Saturday evening. That said, if you want to be the best you have to beat the best and they are certainly one of the best teams in this region. Our pass D can be soft at times, we typically don't give up the big play though, some teams have some success throwing underneath or in the seams against us. We do have our best athletes (Myers/Sweeney/Crane/Horsley/Ellars/Murray) playing in the secondary or at the flat defender position in the 3-5 and they do have a knack for making the big play. Hopefully they are on the same page this weekend as this will be the best passing team they have faced, though TV has a very nice qb and recieving corps as well.
For you Salem fans coming to the game, get there early it will be packed. Yes we are in the middle of a bunch of cornfields, the field is actually behind the middle school which is across the street from the new high school. Visitors bleachers are old but you will be right on the field. Lots of standing room and a great atmoshphere. If you are looking for food on the trip, Champs pizza in thornport and Pizza cottage in buckeye lake are outstanding. Have a safe trip Saturday.

Hey wear what you want its only going to be like 42' during the day so plan on 30's at night. No mittens.. When your out there your blood is flowing fast enough to keep ya nice and toasty.

Thanks. Looking forward to the trip. Making a weekend out of it. Where exactly is Thornport in relation to the school? I've seen a couple of posts about Champs--sounds good.

If you take 70 west to the state route 13 exit just before buckeye lake you will get off the interstate and take a left on to route 13 south. You will go about a mile and a half and come to a traffic light, continue on 13 about a half mile and you will see champs on your right hand side. Great pizza/sub shop. The school is another 7 or 8 miles down 13 south toward somerset/new lexington in the middle of the cornfields. Sheridan is a big school district comprised of farms and a handful of small towns, we actually have four elementarys that feed in to our middle school, the district is spread out. Thornport is just a little area, you would have to turn off of 13 at the light to go in to it, it basically is just a little buckeye lake housing area close to Thornville. I personally recommend Pizza cottage in buckeye lake, bout ten minutes farther up the interstate but worth the drive for sure. It is right in buckeye lake.

When I was in college we had a surefire way for staying warm during those cold games; schnapps!! By the end of the game we had no idea what was going on, but we were warm (either that or we were too wasted to realize that we had frostbite). Your local authorities, however, would probably frown on that sort of thing I'm sure.

Enjoy and have a safe ride down Quakers...also if you're into history, drive down 13 past Sheridan High School about 7 minutes and enter into Somerset (1 of 3 towns to make up the district along with Thornville and Glenford). There you will see our fabulous monument of General Phillip H. Sheridan (Civil War) atop his horse Reinzi, in the middle of the town square, you can also eat at Anthony's Italian, the Clay Haus or Little Phil's Restaraunts...all on/near the square. Can't wait for kickoff...what jersey's will y'all be wearing? All black, white on black? just wondering...it's a toss-up what the Generals will wear (All Red?, All Dark Gray? White? a mixture...or the Silverish Grays?)

i dont know why the Sheridan fans keep reminding all the Quaker fans how good they are....the point is well taken! You have been to the playoffs something like 15 times...Salem's first trip was last year. Salem did play a much tougher schedule this year but they had some trouble and Sheridan rolled to an easy (if there is such a thing) 10-0. Now here is my point..Salem is the best team on Sheridan's schedule so far and that is without question...saw the Tri Valley film and was not impressed with them...So the Generals are in for a fight and I am sure they would want it no other way. Paul Culver is well known throughout the state but Salem also boast the reigning Division III Coach of the Year in Mike Kopachy who in 8 years has taken two 0-10 teams and built them into playoff contenders so the Quakers have no bum behind the wheel. Salem has a big offensive line that even in defeat was able to move the ball week in and week out, if they come to play and allow the Quakers opportunities to score then this could be a classic.

Haha or go north on 13 about 15 min from 70 and do that in Newark/Heath area. Malls and stuff there too. Or stop before 13 in the Zanesville area same deal there. But there is also a pre party at Sheridan High school starting around 3pm.

The RMA Backers are going to roast a 150lb Hog, and have all kinds of good food in the parking lot for a tailgate. (Yup we do it up good down here.) And Yes the Quaker Fans are invited to come out and eat and chit chat about some good ol Football. I would guess there will be a radio playing some where with College Football games on.

I myself will sit in my warm house about a mile away and watch it on my tv. Then come down when the gates open. Maybe.
