Should be a great game, Sheridan has blown out everyone they've played, can the Quakers provide the challenge that they haven't had all year?

To my knowledge, there are very few or absoluetly no Sheridan posters here... here is a message board that covers their league.

I know I had to go to the Licking County Sports board last year to find anyone from Granville (and that was still on JJ's, the week before it died).

I like Sheridan on paper here. The wildcard will be how well the Generals respond to someone giving them a game...something that really hasn't happened up to this point.

What amazes me about Sheridan is their consistency; they easily handled everybody they played. They didn't have a bad game all year. All the scores from their games look like carbon copies of each other. D2 Tri-Valley couldn't handle them and they ended up 7th in their region in D2. Chances are good that the Generals are going to be more than ready for this game and won't have a let down. On paper the Generals look like the favorites, but my heart goes with Salem. The Quakers have to bring it on defense like they never have before, and they must control the ball on offense because they probably wouldn't win a shootout.

Deja-vu .. last year the Quakers go all the way to Granville and hand it to a highly touted team that had a strong running game. This year another major road trip, but like last year I am not sure the opposition has a feel for the caliber of football played around here in the Youngstown area. It should be a great game, and in big games like this I like the team with the great quarterback. Luckily for us, we have about the best one anywhere. Salem wins.

Excited for this match-up! Sheridan is a run first team that has the ability to toss the ball around as well, the Generals also bring a top notch defense to this game with particular strength at the linebacking and d-line. What about Salem? What type of offense do the Quakers run, I see their QB is a 6-2 SR. always nice to have, how well does he throw the ball, or is he run-first? Enjoy the trip down to General Country, very nice stadium in the middle of the cornfields...visitor seating is lacking, but I'm sure more will be brought in (I hear they are expanding for next season). They also have seating in the endzone (also Sheridan Student section).

I know absolutely nothing about Sheridan, but just looking at pure numbers, it seems like its all going to be on the defense to stop Sheridan's attack. Ball control also seems to be a key. The line, on both ends, is going to have to tplay the game of their lives

If Salem brings as many as they did to Granville last year, they better bring in the extra bleachers!

Sheridan's stats look impressive, but ya gotta believe in the Quakers getting it done.

Salem posters. I would advise you not to underestimate the Red Rage. Here is the WOUB site that I watch down here to recap Friday nights. You may find some film. I see a good QB, and a pretty powerful running attack. They have been pretty much unchallenged. Hope the link works for you http://woub.org/tv/index.php?section=5&page=27

Drive around a little on the site. Pretty decent for college kids. I watch the channel for 5 hours a year (10 football friday nights for 1/2 hour)

True. I think we had more fans at the game than Granville -------- mighty impressive. And this year the game is on Saturday which should help even more.

Pretty hard to underestimate a 10-0 team that has playoff experience. We know we are in for a heckuva battle. What do we know about Sheridan's pass defense?

If they have any form of Achilles heel, it might be their secondary from what I'm told. Expect a pretty vicious pass rush though.

^ thanks; we'll work on the screen pass this week as well.

Quakers played 5 playoff teams during the regular season, beating 3 of them. Hopefully having played a lot of pretty decent teams will give us an edge.

What about special teams for Sheridan? How good is their coverage and return teams? Any returns for TD's? How good is their kicker at kick-offs, field goals, etc.?

Then I'd tell the RBs to buckle up, as the Sheridan LBs will be applying some wood. These are big nasty farm boys...they will hit you early/often, and will do so until the whistle blows on every play.

I don't put tons of stock in the "strong schedule" theory, tbh. If you're good, you're good. Now, if Sheridan had won every game by 2 TDs instead of 6 with their schedule, then I'd be concerned. ;)

QuakerOats, Sheridan also travels well (when it needs to, luckily not this week) so expect a packed house Saturday, Sheridan will have plenty of support from the surrounding area and other MVL schools as well.
TheQ, I can't say much for the kicking game, because I don't think they've really needed/used it...but I'd just say average to above average on the kickoffs. I would say punt/kick return game is average as well...there have been years in the past that I'd say the punt return was as scary as anything on the team (fielding the ball was an adventure!), not sure about this year as I haven't seen all of their games...but I haven't seen any problems the games I have watched.

Sounds like a team we're very familiar with, Beloit West Branch. They got a state title in 1994 and had some pretty nasty teams for quite a few years. They've been down the last couple of years but I'm sure they'll be back to their winning ways in the near future.

Big strong farm boys? Sounds similar to one of our heated rivalries that Salem is very familiar with, D3 Beloit West Branch. They got a state title in '94 (a great team that beat Salem in OT that year) and are traditionaly very good every year. They've been down for a couple of years, but I know that won't last long. In fact, we're joining their conference next year that includes Minerva, Louisville, Marlington etc.

Toothman for salem is going to have to play mistake free football and hit his recievers on their timing routes. He will get his yads prolly around 300 throwing and rushing. If sheridan can keep salem off the field they should get it done but if not it could get ugly fast.

Toothman's a nice looking kid and runs well for his size. I will also have to say that Salem has the size advantage up front in the trenches. Receiver's #10 and #4 also run well...with #10 being the go to guy. Salem looks to have a balanced run/pass attack with their offense going as far as Toothman will take them. Looks like it will be a fun game to watch in a packed house.

I would have to agree with the "big strong farm boys" analogy....but we have speed too lol.
