I loved District 9. Inglorious Bastards is the main one I keep seeing that I agree with. Maybe I had high hopes because everyone said it was amazing. I was bored throughout most of the movie though. Also agree Transformers 2 was pretty bad. I did go see it in IMAX though so it made it tolerable.

Little Danny;500384 wrote:^^ God, that move had one of the most abrupt endings ever. I read the book and saw earlier versions of the movie, but the way this movie was done was so anti-climatic. It seemed like should hae been a little bit more to the movie before the ending.

Also, given that half of the dialog in the movie was Dakota Fanning screaming, it quickly became very annoying.
Exactly why I hated it. Everyone's running away from those things and then it's "Oh, they're dying".

District 9? Cloverfield? Avatar? Am I reading the topic title correctly? It said disappointing right? Either you people have weird tastes in movies, or you just wouldn't know a good, well-done movie if it came up and slapped you in the face, because none of those can be remotely considered disappointing by the average movie-goer. Even if science fiction isn't your thing it's not hard to tell a good sci-fy film from a bad one. And I can guarantee you NONE of those sci-fy films are bad.

I will agree about Transformers 2. I didn't really like the first one that much either.

I think some of us have different tastes because I would put fantatic four 1 and 2 as two of the worst movies ive seen along with the happening. At the same time i really enjoyed Sherlock Holmes (i didnt have high hope but really enjoyed it) and Up. Fantatsic Four had the same problem as Spiderman 3 and Tranformers 2 they all had terriable writing filled with corny lines.

how interesting...your taste in movies is enlightening....

you need to check out a flick called "Xanadu", or "Jaws 3 in 3d"....I think you will love them.

I think we also need to make sure everyone is on the same page as far as differentiating between a disappointing movie vs. just a bad movie.

To me, a disappointing movie is one where I had hopes and expectations it would be good (ie. the book was good, great movie trailer, it was a sequel and I really enjoyed the first movie, etc.). A bad movie would be one where I had no expectations and the movie just stunk up the joint. Of course, sometimes it could be both.

Therefore to me, a disappointing movie would be Angels and Demons. A bad movie would be just about any of the regurgitated Katherine Heigl romantic comedies that keep popping up every few months.

Well said.

A disappointing movie would be Devil. I thought it would be a sort of return to quality films for M. Night. It wasn't. At all. Never again.

Sorry but I'm not in the minority on this one, look up the ratings and reviews on those three, they all got good reception, especially District 9 and Avatar. Besides Rotten Tomatoes, my favorite site is spill.com, they are usually pretty level with their reviews and critique the films from a viewer's prospective and not so much from a critic's. They've reviewed hundreds of movies and only three have ever gotten the highest level rating possible. Two of them are mentioned in this topic...

I liked District 9, I didn't care for Cloverfield, and Avatar was only good because of the 3D. I would never buy the dvd. It had a bad story and on top of that we had a political statement shoved down our throats.

I have to add Machete to this list for the reason I stated about Avatar. It had potential to be a bad ass flick but instead Robert Rodriguez decided to jam a political statement down our throats.

I did not like Cloverfield..I had high hopes for it as well. I thought Machete was better than I thought it would be(I thought it would be terrible, but it was ok).

Avatar sucked. How this movie made a gazillion dollars is more of a statement about humanity than any statement made in the film. The story is just a rehashed version of James Cameron's other (and better) films, with worse character development.

Agreed but I don't think people went for the story angle. Everyone I have talked to was more concerned about the 3D.

Yeah, all the talk was more about how great the 3D was....everyone just said..."you have to see this in 3D"

I enjoyed the look of Avatar, but was disappointed in the movie. Just Dances With Wolves on another planet.

Both Angels and Demons and the DaVinci Code were disappointing because I liked the books so much. Both movies went away from the book too much. I can't even start to think about the inaccuracies.

The Happening made me want to slit my wrists. It looked so good, but was so dumb. How about Hostel?

It was good for the Gore, but it was missing as far as plot/story lines go. Maybe I thought it would be the best Horror film ever and just held it up there a little too high.
